Funny, I thought Move and Kinect were calculated moves by Sony and MS to try and tap some of the already-tapped casual market from Wii using the same 5 year old Blue Ocean thinking/tactics.
The wii has been dead for over a year now, Move and Kinect were the final nails in it's coffin. If they don't announce a new machine at E3 we know Shigsy and co have lost the plot.
Guess different minds see things in different ways.
Oh, and to clarify, I own all forms of waggle/jiggle tech because I'm a whore for the dance!!

Registered 15 years agoYeah but that sounds more like defensive posturing than an outright "we won't do it".
Plus, I agree with them in principle, I think if you're gonna have 'em, having well thought out achievements (like say Demon's Souls or the Uncharted series) is the key to a good game.
I think that Nintendo could definitely do some kind of simple sort of system of badges or something for the game. Like Bronze is you used all of Mario's power-ups once, Silver is you cleared the game, Gold is all stars found, and Platinum is you found the secrete room or some shit like that. -
I gave a shit until I got to about 40K on the 360. When I didn't receive a cake from MS, I gave up bothering.
I am not a cumulative number! I am aaaahh forget it... -

Registered 13 years agoI think that Nintendo would be shooting themselves in the foot if they release the next console early which is not graphically on par with either the next playstation or xbox. They would carry on loosing out on the multiplatform games so the situation wouldnt change.
Thats why I think they should just wait it out -

Registered 17 years agoThe Wii is history. Basic necessities of this generation - decent online multiplayer, graphics that don't look like you've puked up on the screen, and good game support just aren't there, and never have been.
I could deal with solely having a 360, or a PS3, or a PC, but no way could I only have a Wii, due to it's abysmal release schedule mainly. "It has Mario and Zelda." is not an excuse for all this crap. -

speculation as to what it is please
I think the games will be projected as holograms out of the console, similar to Leia's message to Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars IV: A New Hope. -

I agree. If they release another SD, low spec console no one* will buy. The casuals (I hate that word, but it serves) won't upgrade as they are happy with low res stuff and party games, they will stick with the Wii. Hardcore (even worse word) won't buy as they would be attracted to the higher spec, better looking consoles.
I genuinely think the only thing they can do is do a huge jump forward in tech, I don't see a minor upgrade do the sales for them.
*By no one I mean not a runaway success. -

Registered 16 years agoThe problem with the achievements quote is that it's utterly symptomatic of nintendos thinking.
"our in house designers don't want it, so fuck everyone else"
I'm sure EA, for example, would have welcomed a score system. -

It would be very easy for them to provide something well in excess of the other 2 and maybe not quite match the next gen but at least have decent 3d party support for the next 3 years.
They'll probably do a 3DS though, decent update that maybe matches or only slightly betters the other two
The 3DS graphics actually look pretty fucking good. It's not as obvious on a tiny screen (and in 3D I presume) than it is on a home console, graphics don't matter as much on a handheld. -

Registered 15 years agoThe thing is that Nintendo's fuck everybody else thinking has its strengths as far as game design goes, but I really wish that sometimes they'd listen to their fans and give tem what the fuck it is they're begging for. It's not like they have a cash flow problem for fuck's sake. -

Registered 18 years agoI don't see why people are clamouring for achievements, they're mostly pointless. No-one will give a shit if you have a five-digit gamerscore.
In-game achievements, however - with actual rewards - are the way to go. It's what they implemented in Metroid Prime Trilogy and I'm guessing other games will follow suit. -

Obviously without the whole "non-stop cavalcade of shit" thing. -

Registered 13 years agoNintendo have achievments in Super Smash Bros. where you unlock trophies, soundtracks and demos of classic games. If they could do something like with the whole console it could be great. -

Yeah. Nintendo would be the best third-party in the world. As a hardware manufacturer and platform boss though they can suck my dick. -
I work at a games retailer (not game) and i don't think i've sold a new wii in about 6 month's. I've had LOADS traded in to get Kinect/Move though, even at £100 i think i'd have a hard time selling the Wii. After some pikey burgled my house 18 months ago the only thing i didnt bother replacing was my Wii.
