Finished this last night and thought it was awesome, probably my surprise hit of the year so far. I love it when a game comes from out of nowhere and does that. Have also got the urge to play through it again, despite having a load of stuff from the Steam sale waiting for me.

I went for the suicide ending.

Yeah, I have this on Steam. Playing Ghost Recon at the moment though.

Short but sweet! the perfect military title! also found the head shots all be it pretty gruesome with the heads just exploding massively rewarding for a shooter. Nice to see 'enemies' that don't need three rockets to the face to show any signs of injury.

My second fav shooter this year behind Binary Domain! which was kick-ass!

8/10 for this mediocrity? You're losing it.

I posted some of my thoughts on the game in the comments section for the 'Max Payne 3 and Spec Ops fail to meet sales targets' article on the main site.

Not sure what everyone saw in Spec Ops that I didn't. I played it and beat it in less than a day. Found it to be just a mediocre third person shooter which was heavily derivative of other third person games such as Gears of War. Also I still don't know what The Line actually is after beating the game. I think of it as being The Line between a bad game and a good one - Spec Ops is on the wrong side of that Line, unfortunately.

Sounds a bit harsh, I haven't finished it yet, but I'm enjoying it so far. It's not a great game, but it is a good one. The setting is a little different and provides background interest. Some of the choices so far have added a bit of depth.

I would suggest that it might be a better experience than a game. And is it better than Gears? I'd say not, but it's still worth playing. For me at any rate ;-)

Each to there own obviously, but it seems strange that you don't mention the story.

As a cover shooter I'd say it was competent, though I wasn't expecting more than that. Personally and I expect most other people who enjoyed the game did so because although it was yet another cover shooter, it had an original setting and a great story.

I knew the game wouldn't last long, but felt the devs deserved my support for making the game they did and giving me one of the most memorable endings I've come across.

I think it's slightly unfair to dismiss it for not being a Gears of War beater.

If you don't know what "The Line" is in relation to this game, I would question if you've actually played it... It's pretty damned clear what the line is.

Good game, its almost a shame they had to build a shooter into it because it distracts a little from the story. And the story was pretty nonsense but the visuals, soundtrack and set pieces really made it something different. Pretty gruesome and just nice to play something that felt a little love had gone into differentiating it from other games.

My only criticism so far is that when you exit cover, Walker automatically stands up. In the fiercer firefights, this means you either die or get so wounded you have to spend valuable seconds cowering and recuperating. Other than that, it's not too difficult, and it's at least trying something different with the story. Sandy Dubai's certainly an interesting setting.

I don't really enjoy military shooters but the hype over the story has me intrigued enough to give it a shot at that price...

The story is pretty stupid really, but it is well done and there are things in there that you won't experience in other games.

Rent this.don't buy it. Fun solid title with one of the most shocking and sobering scenes in any game I've ever played. Short length works for it.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Dubai as well so that added a point or two for me. Good setting for a game like this.

Pretty brainy, for a cover shooter.

A fiver? Was that new or used? I was just checking it out, and it's still 15-20 new.

I still *really* want to play this, but think I'll wait until after xmas and hope it's in the sales.
  • Deleted user 22 December 2012 12:58:38
It was on sale on Steam or somewhere for less than a fiver, it's great.
  • Deleted user 22 December 2012 13:19:15
    Actually, I say it's great.

I felt really fucking miserable taking out all these soliders with a phosphorus morter thing. It's not like Battlefield or COD where everything is met with a OHH YEAAAH BABY!. It's...

I felt a bit cold, and dead inside.

Surely that's a good thing. I think it's meant to make you feel that way.

I can't be certain, as I've now passed up the chance to get this for a fiver twice. One of these days, I'll bite.

Yeah. That's why I want to play it, none of that ooh-ra nonsense!

Well yeah I wasn't saying it's a bad thing, just it makes you feel awful as long as that's something you're expecting :D

I shot a scared, running woman in a corridor because her head was covered with a shaul. Some of the enemy have the same head cover, and as it was in the middle of a heated battle my trigger finger just went and I shot her in the head before realising. She crumpled to the floor, and seriously I felt terrible. Like what the fuck did I just do. I can imagine actual soliders making the same fuckups...it wasn't even really my fault I was fighting for my life but...

Amazing how a game can make me feel like that really.
