I'd hesitate to say 'filler' but I dont think you would get six (technically (?) seven) series out of it these days.

Only another week to go, and we'll have finished the 16 season run through of Grey's Anatomy we started in October. Then to mix things up a bit we're going to do all 15 seasons of ER.

Have you also included all the crossover episodes of Station 19?

If you're going to do the job, do it right.

    Cobra Kai Season 3

A return to form after season 2 was a bit wank. Much funnier, on the right side of silly, well structured and with a much more satisfying finale than the last season.

    Good fun, 8/10

    The Queen's Gambit

Late to party, but what a party!

Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish, beautifully shot and a really satisfying (if predictable) conclusion.

Who'd have thought Dudley from Harry Potter and that kid from Love Actually could offer such stellar acting support.

    9/10

    Cobra Kai Season 3

I agree with Lukus, this was a big improvement on season 2, although I'm still deeply irritated that half the cast clearly have no clue how to do karate. Loved the excursions and cameos, but could have done without the 'Nam flashbacks. This season hooked in my missus who was whopping and hollering during the finale.

A whole year to wait now for Season 4 and the arrival of Terry Silver and Mike Barnes (I hope).

    8/10

Kim's Convenience 8/10 First season, been sitting on my Netflix list for years, finally watched, blasted through 13 ep in two nights. Comedy about a Korean owned corner shop, think its Canadian

It has that bittersweet taste laugh one minute something in my eye the next, gentle stuff but once you get in the flow well worth my time. 4 seasons.

The main guy is great, his little voice inflections and facial expressions crack me up

    Cobra Kai s3 7/10

I almost gave up after s2 as it was a bit of a shit teen romance thing, this was better although the kids constantly switching dojo’s is a bit irritating and the fighting is terrible.

    Industry

Took me a while to finish this as there’s only so much of seeing young bankers doing coke and covering each other with cum and then eating the cum afterwards that you can take in one go.

All in all it’s very good. The characters are interesting and complex, yet when shit things happen to them you never really feel sorry for them. Because they’re all a little bit cunty. So the comparisons to This Life are very apt, or maybe Girls, if they had all sold out for big city jobs.

There’s a standout episode following someone as they desperately try fix and cover up a huge cock-up they made at work which really resonated with me as I saw it many, many times at a previous job.

Watch it and feel old and poor.

    9/10

    Anne with an E S03
I started watching Anne with an E because I wanted some feelgood TV. Season 3 goes really dark. Loss and pain and racism are piled high. Yet it manages to come out really hopeful and uplifting, apart from one unresolved story arc that's dropped in order to focus on some romance.

I can see why they wanted to tidy things up for some of the characters, and I'm guessing they were hoping for a fourth season. But the arc that is dropped is most unfortunate.

    A spectacular show though.

    Would love to see more

    Twin Peaks (S2)

As with the first season this has some of the finest moments I've seen on TV - the ending in particular was delightfully freaky. Unfortunately it's padded out with too much filler that adds little to the core story - they could have removed the Donna and James show for starters.

    8/10

I loved every single moment of TP2 (even the broom guy) after waiting the 25 years we were told to. Can see why the reactions are mixed of course, but some things break my capacity for any sort of critical thinking.

    Anyway -

Terrahawks - forgot it was this stupid / 10

The voices. The comedy. The zeroid noises. Christ. On Amazon.

    The Deuce Season 1 - 9/10

If the Wire was about porn and prostitutes in 1970s New York, it might be similar to this. James Franco plays twins who get sucked into this milieu with some reluctance and none at all. Maggie Gyllenhal is excellent as a prostitute turned pornstar. Lots of actors from the Wire show up in small roles (Chris Partlow, Slim Charles, Deangelo Barksdale, Frank Sobotka, Maurice Levy). Well worth watching if you can deal with fairly regular graphic sex. It doesn't really have a strong central narrative like the Wire. It's a more panoramic take on a place and time.

    Transformers: Earthrise

Like the first series, this is pure nostalgia for people who used to wake up on Saturday mornings and endure an hour of Timmy Mallet for about ten minutes of Transformers.

I guess it has its moments. But most of the time it’s either unintentionally funny (Optimus Prime getting philosophical with something that looks like was based off a child’s drawing of a brontosaurus) or just poorly made. There’s a lot of repeated character designs in there because they either ran out of models or couldn’t be bothered to make new ones, and really basic errors like missing sound effects, broken 180 rules, and unexplained cuts to other scenes. And also, considering they’re transformers and transforming was kind of their whole deal, they never bloody transform!

It’s weird that I keep expecting it to be good, frankly. Shame on me.

    4/10

The Morning Show the first 2 episodes

I can’t get over how bad the entire premise is. It’s a morning show yet they’re behaving like they’re the pillar of society and are basically saving the world with their stupid 2 minute interviews. I get we’re supposed to connect with the characters to keep watching, but it’s just so hollow. Ep 2 is a little better and I’m sure they’re trying to get it to go places but the whole thing is just so ridiculous it could be from another universe where there are Serious Stakes other than ratings and ad money and their audience is refined and intelligent and demanding of the highest moral standards and integrity and professionalism.

It’s a small thing but one scene that stood out to me as the embodiment of it all was the bad guy fighting with his espresso machine. Am I supposed to laugh because he’s never had to use it before and now look at him haha, fallen from grace moron, shouldn’t have screwed around? Should I feel sorry for him? Envy him? I don’t know and I’m sure the people who made it don’t know, they just want to create “emotion” and “drama”.

I just felt sorry for people who take this kind of fake invented conflict seriously.

I think I got into the 3rd season of Treme. I was really enjoying it, but then kids came along, we binned sky etc. From what I can gather, it holds up throughout. The Deuce also on my list.

Not really watching anything at all, aside from Schitt's Creek. Sleep is fucked, meaning I'm flaking out dead early.

I watched a few seasons of Tremé but lost interest. The music is fantastic but I think the characters are less interesting than both the Deuce and the Wire. It's still on my list but I'll probably never get round to watching it again.

Spiral - 10/10 (for the whole 8 series)

One of my favourite ever TV series which now S8 has concluded, also means that's the end of the show as it was the last series. It is still running on linear BBC but all the eps are on iPlayer, so binge watched them over the weekend.

I'm really going to miss the characters, the writing, interlinked stories and politics. S8 was hard hitting, the child actors excellent and some loose ends tied up nicely. No spoilers - was nervous for how it would end as could have gone multiple ways, but personally thought it worked.
We watched s1e1 last night on the strength of glowing reviews/recommendations (this one included). It wasn't terrible but I have to say I was quite underwhelmed and it felt much more dated and generic than I expected. Every character had a scene where they specifically said how pretty/beautiful the missing girl was to the degree that it would make a good drinking game. There were also a couple of laugh out loud funny bad acting/directing 'reaction shot' moments that were Eastenders-esque.

Is it worth persevering with series 1 or should we jump ahead to series 8? Are the series related or can be we pick and mix? I'm willing to put a bit of work in if it's just a slow start.

As a heads up, schitt's Creek does take a while to get going (practically 2 seasons) but it is worth it. It's not bad and still definitely watchable but it goes up a notch once it finds its feet and the characters are more likeable.

Thanks for the heads up. I definitely am quick to drop shows if they do not engage me within 1 or 2 episodes. Hopefully there is enough there to do the trick. 2 seasons is not a commitment I tend to make to be won over

You may gel with it more easily than I did. Same as Parks and Rec, which I also found took a season to really get going.
