Hnmm, I really wanted to enjoy this but it's a really miserable experience of dead kids, parents and random insest storyline. It has a really good cast and I did enjoy the multiple locations that it flips between (France and the UK). The alien design is pretty good and the production values are top notch but the show is one of the bleakest things I've watched in ages.

    6/10
War Of the Worlds - the Fox one on Disney

We started watching this a few days ago and have largely been enjoying binge watching it (have episodes 7 & 8 left), though would not disagree with your review so far, I would question the ‘top notch production values’ mind. It’s really a bit silly, despite these people facing an actual population ending apocalypse they just don’t seem to have survival on their minds, why do they consistently walk about down the middle of roads with no cover or not spend anytime securing their next port of call for example and why did it take most of them so long to get armed and even then they don’t think to find all the ammo they can and how was an entire army base taken out by the ‘aliens’ when they sent two clowns out to investigate and left the door open. Anyway silly but quite watchable. Hopefully get some proper meat on the bones in Series 2 which airs in July I think which I’m kinda surprised was actually made.

    Invincible (animation on Amazon).

Wow. Just, wow. Outrageously good. Only let down by some sub-par animation.

This was my favourite scene in Invincible (don't click unless you've watched it all)

Watched Mare of Easttown based on the people praising it here. Thought it was very good, thanks.

Yeah not normally into tired detective series but a bit of class and Winslet being an extremely talented actress really elevated it. I thought Evan Peters was very good in it too.

That's pretty harsh on the animation. It's very good for the most part.

I am halfway through and enjoying it a lot. Winslet is excellent and the characters have real depth. Probably wasn't going to bother until I saw the reviews here.

    For All Mankind: S1

Huh, this was pretty damn good. It really got into its stride for the back-half of the 10 episodes. I enjoyed the 'extras' you can view with Apple TV app – interactive AR models of the various spaceships, as well as behind-the-scenes shorts.

Can't wait to start S2 tonight.

    Billions (S4)

I'm a bit of stuck record with this - it remains consistent and the Machiavellian powerplays are still well constructed and entertaining. There's a few silly moments in this season, but nothing to impact the overall quality.

    8/10

    Counterpart - 9/10

Sci-fi spy show with minimal sci. JK Simmons stars as a bureaucrat and his double from a parallel dimension. In the 1980s East German scientists somehow created two separate versions of our reality connected by a tunnel and they began to diverge at that point. For thirty years each side has been plotting against the other for all the advantages the differences between the two realities generate. It very much resembles a cold war spy thriller. Simmons plays two very different versions of the same character and does a fantastic job down to very different body language.

This is on Starzplay but I'm sure you could download it.

@MrFlay I enjoyed Counterpart, and it's a rare beast with actually having a decent ending to the show.

Agreed counterpart is very good - is a very focussed fringe type show - and just finished mare of eastown - thread delivered - excellent 9/10

Now go watch pennyworth - I seem to be the only one that has seen it (probably because it is on starplayz)

Thought Counterpart got cancelled? Or did the writers know in advance so sewed up the story in two seasons?

I think it was cancelled but it had a pretty satisfying ending despite that.

    Counterpart has been cancelled, sadly.

Doom Patrol (bizarre superhero misfits have ever bizarre adventures), Mr Mercedes (Brendan Gleeson is a retired cop who is targeted by a mass killer he failed to catch), Castle Rock and Pennyworth are also worth a look on Starzplay. Surprisingly good options for a niche service.

Veronica Mars is also on there. It remains an excellent TV show.

I was dubious from trailers but gave it a go as it was created by bruno heller who did rome. Trailers didnt do it any favours at all and i didnt realise it was an alternate history until i watched it.

Its a cross between man from the high castle, v for vendetta, alfie and the commando comics and virtually nothing to do with batman.

    Feel Good season 2 (netflix)

Mae Martin and Charlotte Ritchie’s relationship takes a slight backseat as this series focuses more on Mae’s mental health and past trauma. It leans much more heavily on drama than comedy this time around despite it being a sitcom about a stand-up. But of all the reductive subgenre of semi-biographical female-led comedy-dramas this is my favourite.

    Get it watched

    9/10

Mare of EastTown. 8.5/10. Terrific stuff. Kate Winslet was great, with a special mention for whomever player her mum (1st Lady in 24...). She was great too. Really good, believable characters in a pretty fucked up place.
