    The Sopranos Seasons 1-5 - 10/10

The best TV series I have ever watched (overtaking The Wire). Going to be gutted when I finish Season 6 :(
Same here, i'm only up to Season 3 though. Can't believe i didn't get into it earlier. 10/10 easily.

The first season of Dexter is the best one for me. It's still good after that but not quite as good. It takes a few turns after season one that just don't work that well.
Season 4 was the best for me. I actually gasped at the end. Ithink all of them are pretty much perfect though.

    @glaeken

Just checked and it is included in the boxset, thanks for the info.

I 'third' this. I'm most of the way through the first series and loving it so far. It's a lot more lighthearted than I thought it would be. Some great characters in it too.

I've also started watching Eastbound & Down, as recommended on this thread. It really is excellent. Kenny Powers is a likeable twat and some of the stuff he comes out with just needs to be written down.

@iHAZaCHEEZ3burger I think what I like about the first season is its more about Dexter actually going around bumping off bad guys. The seasons after that seem more concerned with other events in Dexter’s life and he gets less chance to do his thing and he is more reacting to events around him. Still I like all seasons really overal (even 2) and 4 was a good one.

I don't get the hate for 2, season 3(still loved it) was worse than 2.

Just finished season 1 of Party Down. If you like shows like the US Office or Parks and Recreation this is very much in the same style, although it’s a bit more adult (yes, it has actual boobies).

It’s pretty decent all told, and about as good as those other two I just mentioned. It got cancelled after the second season sadly which I’m about to start watching now, but if you’re looking for something to give you a few laughs you could do a lot worse.

I think its all down to Jamie Murrays character. A lot of people could not stand her. I do think there was maybe a bit too much of her but I also find her quite attractive so that helped me put up with her to an extent. Still the Doakes stuff in season 2 was brilliant. Just a shame they killed him off as I thought he was a great adversary for Dexter. I guess with the way the story played out there was no alternative to killing him though.

    Dexter Season 1

A bit late to the party here, but I loved this first season - last episode was a gripper! Some great characters and hoping most of them carry forward to the next season. Looks stunning on DVD upscaled on the PS3. Tempted to not get the BR for season 2. It's a bizarre thing to say, but it's nice to see a bit of swearing for a change - gave it an edge.

Docked a ½ point for the overly long intro credits :p

    9.5/10

I'm watching Dexter at the moment too. The first season is outstanding, absolutely loved it. I'm not long finished the second season and while it isn't as good (when you think about it, it's actually a bit crap), but it's actually more gripping. Proper edge of the seat stuff at times.

I didnt mind Season 2, it introduced Frank Lundy who is one of the stronger supporting characters the series has seen. I liked the way it escalated the Doakes - Dexter rivarly as well and the pay off to that was well done. My only problem with it was that they are going to have to repeat themselves when it comes to closing the show, basically using the cops are onto Dexter story again.

I think thats what made her character so good, How she got under the viewers skin because she disrupted Dexters perfect life he created for himself. Great character. She is hot and looks like one of my ex's, who turned out to be a pyscho as well.

I agree about Doakes as well good character and I was shocked they killed him off.

The books have a different storyline to the tv version so I'd recommend them. I think this is one instance of the tv series being better though.

@iHAZaCHEEZ3burger Yeah it probably is good acting that people hated her so much. She does represent a different kind of psycho as well initially.

I am not sure I would try the books as I have heard a few people say the series is an improvement and some of the stuff I heard about the later books makes me want to steer well clear of them.

Dexter is ace, except for the last series, which was quite shit. Looking forward to the new series though.

It does seem to be falling into a House-esque routine of predictability though. Oh look, Deborah is dating the killer, oh look, Dexter gets close to the killer and in doing so learns something about himself, maybe I'm not a monster, maybe I can have a normal life, oh look something in the finale fucked that up, reset and all forgotten for the next series.

Doesn't stop it being entertaining though.

I was hoping Lundy had a strong hunch that Dexter was the killer, and was dating Deborah to get closer to Dexter. Not sure how that would've resolved itself without Dexter having to kill Lundy like how he killed his brother at the end of season 1, but I wasn't too thrilled with Dexter managing to completely and utterly outsmart this FBI special agent who's built his career on always getting his man. It just made Lundy look like some incompetent.

Season 4 or 5? The end of Season 4 with Trinity has some great tension in the run up to the end. I haven't seen season 5 yet, waiting for it to be released over here :-(
  • Deleted user 1 June 2011 13:42:13
    5. The Trinity killer season was amazing. Even managed to shake off me seeing John Lithgow as Dick from Third Rock all the time.

Season 3 of Dexter is the poorest and even that has some fantastic writing. The last one was quite dull too when it became more like 24 (everyone watching everyone suspiciously etc), which wasn't a shock when the guy from 24 took over.

    4 is my favourite :)

    The Event

Disapointing overall, it had a few intersting moments. Annoyingly, the very end was the most interesting. Even more annoying the dumb blonde bitch didn't get killed.

    3/10

The Event felt like Plod Forward 2.0 in the pilot, so glad i didn't persevere, it's easier to know what's a stinker these days having been stung by Heroes, FF, voyager et al.

Spartacus Blood and Sand - holy fucking shit, I was not expecting that. What a show. Now to get Gods of the Arena :)

The Event: Seemed to fall in to the same trap a lot of American series do now, think they will live forever so spread the story out so thinly or put so many twists in you just kind of give up caring. I thought the general story could be brilliant but can definitely see why it was cancelled

Spartacus Blood and Sand: Wow. Can't work out if it was gratuitous or stylised. Really good though, kept the story rattling along and you really wanted the right characters to win out or die slowly. Very interested to see where the second season goes (especially with a new leading man) but unsure if I want to watch Gods of the Arena. Does it add much?

Gods of the Arena is a great companion piece to Blood and Sand. It really adds depth to the charaters and you get more Batiatus. I thought it was as good as Blood and Sand personally.

House Season 7 - 7.5/10. Suffered a little from a rather long break, and for the first time I found myself finding the format quite tiring. They pulled it around in the end, great last episode but I do wonder how long it's got left

    American Gothic

One of my favourite TV shows and unfortunately another great series that only got one season. Sheriff Lucas Buck is an excellent demonic bad guy. The only downside is that it never reached a satisfactory conclusion, but the journey is still worth travelling, remonds me of Carnivale for that reason.

    9/10

Every time I see the kid, was it Caleb? In movies, legion, Tokyo drift, I laugh...he's still got that Southern drawl.
