Long shot but has anyone on here been daft enough to watch ďDirty JohnĒ?

Someone recommended it to my wife so Iíve ended up watching it. Only 3 episodes in but itís absolutely crap. She still wants to give it a chance in case it improves but itís proper TV movie amateur hour rubbish

Does it get good? Has loads of 10/10 reviews on IMDB, surely they are fake?

@Jono62 That's what the recommender said, "watch the series and then watch the documentary"

I'll carry on to the bitter end :)

Race across the world (BBC 2)

Watched this after a work colleague recommended it. It followed 5 couples who had £1200 to get from Greenwich to Singapore via set hubs without using planes.

It was pretty enjoyable TV and another series is being commissioned this year. Itís still on catch up. Iíd recommend.

    Bosch (S5)

I enjoyed the previous series, and this continued in a similar vein. The investigations had a bit of meat, with suitable development. Just the right blend of leg work and the occasional action to spice it up. It sets things up nicely for another season. The daughter is still a bit annoying, but perhaps a little less so than previously.

We really enjoyed that too, apart from the cheesy as fuck 'tv moral story'/top gear style close race bits at the end. Which kind of ruined it a bit for me.

No, you didn't see the other lot over there to add drama- in the sign-in book at the end, they were 4 hours behind.

Or even worse, the 'oh look, we're on a massively high tower, but can somehow see the last team struggling to get in, so lets go down and lend them money to get in' bit to give it an 'aren't people nice' ending.

Essentially, apart from being a massive cynic, I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next series!

    I concur.

I also think (I have nothing to back this up btw) that they may use retired ex-police/servicemen as extras. There was one scene when they were clearing the pharmacy, the lead police officer looked as if he had come from a local sheltered housing scheme.

Looking forward to getting stuck in. Although I have a feeling it's based on the book I've just read (a lot of the storylines are intermingledffrom various books)

    The Victim

Brilliant. An at times hard watch that asks a lot of difficult questions abouts rights of both victims and offenders and also about the role that courts actually play. It's the acting that makes it though with some great scenes from both leads.

    Game of Thrones S1

Being pretty much the only person ever to have not even seen a single scene in this series but pretty much know everything about because everyone around me talked about it all the time was pretty strange to actually watch it.

I can certainly see the appeal - just fantastic writing and character building. You really can engage with a lot of them. You love the heroes and you hate the villains.

Would of loved to have seen this without all the spoilers but that really canít be helped and I donít blame anyone of course. Never had Sky never had an opportunity to watch (unless I paid for the Blu-rays etc).

Bloke from the full monty was miscast I thought though. Couldnít take him seriously as King

    85/100
Do continue posting your reviews as you watch the subsequent seasons; I'm curious about what you'll think of seasons 6, 7 and 8 especially

I've never seen Game of Thrones either. Spoilers wouldn't be an issue as I've never read anything about it or know any of the characters, plot points etc. Although I do now know that a bloke from The Full Monty plays the King

Might give it a go one day once all the fuss has died down

I just finished my rewatch of The Americans.

I can't believe the balancing act they pulled off, making you feel empathy for people who spend their time ruining other people's lives, if not outright murdering them. But they manage it, and manage to make the consequences stick. The main characters look utterly haggard and broken by the end, and I felt a bit that way too.

I might have said it before, but it's one of the best TV shows I've seen in the last decade, if not the best. It's criminally underlooked and undervalued, and very much worth a complete watch if you haven't already. All hail the Mail Robot.

    10/10

    The Bay ITV

Morven Christie plays a detective sergeant family liaison officer called in on an investigation into missing twins from a family living in Morecambe.

Really enjoyed the first few episodes, but we (wife and me) thought the latter ones were a drop in quality. Culminating in the last episode being the weakest, even though it tied everything up.

Hopefully we next see Morven Christie in a new series of the brilliant A word.

    7/10

@Mola_Ram Mail Robot is actually the protagonist if you watch closely. R2d2 was based on him

And yeah Philip and Elizabeth are basically ghouls by the end. They have amazing character arcs. A brilliant series but sometimes emotionally exhausting to watch - some of the things Philip has to do in particular are just vile.

My main problem with the series - one that thankfully appears only during the final 2 or 3 seasons - is the way they depict life in the USSR through flashbacks (especially Philip's memories). It's a complete caricature that reeks of US-centric anti-socialist revisionist propaganda and it's a bit jarring and weird

I didn't notice that, but I'm not really up on a lot of the history. I've read quite a bit about nuclear weapons testing and anti-proliferation treaties, but not so much about life in Soviet Russia.

Related but slightly different show, I massively enjoyed Hunted on C4. It's obviously staged in parts, and the editing makes some events look too much of a coincidence, but there's loads of tension - the mix of solo and team fugitives give very different dynamics. Gripping stuff. I think it's still On Demand at the moment - Season 2 was my favourite :)

    After life.

Good. Shaky first episode but it pulls together to be something quite heartfelt albeit it is full of gervaisims. Found myself bouncing hard of quite a lot of stuff recently so when epsidoe 3 I think it was felt like 5 minutes I knew I was enjoying it.

Could probably do with a pass through from someone like merchant to make a couple of monologues from other characters sound less like gervais but overall I enjoyed it and spending time with the shows characters which he draws really well.

    4/5

And talking of bouncing of stuff hard, Iím close to binning Sons of Anarchy.

Enjoyed first two seasons but 3 really has gone nowhere so far (just arrived in
Ireland) and Iím struggling to get through a single episode at the moment

Derry Girls S1. 8.5/10. Didn't expect that. Really funny, warming with a great 90s nostalgic vibe and even showed some depth in the last episode. Looking forward to S2.
