@chrisp Are you German? Just wondered how Dark's going down in it's home country?

Gomorrah S1. 9/10. Fair fucks, you lot were right. It's absolutely outstanding, although it did take me a while to get into it. Watched 8 episodes this week, so it must be doing something right!
:) I tried to pace myself a bit but ended up watching all of season 4 in 2 days.

@BinaryBob101 I'm not German but have close links with the country and spend a lot of time there.

My German friends had never heard of Dark and my repeated attempts to get them to watch it have so far fallen on deaf ears (notwithstanding the fact they now have Netflix!).

Most of the reviews of Dark I have read in the German press have been very positive. I recall reading one that accused it of aping American TV, and not being particularly successful, but on the whole I believe it has been very well received in Germany (by those who have heard of it at least!).

That's a shame. I've heard from Germans that most drama there is a bit rubbish, you'd think it'd be a huge phenomenon in it's own country.

@BinaryBob101 There is a lot of naff German TV but I think the quality is improving. I've seen some great German productions over the past few years. Babylon Berlin, Bad Banks, Weinberg are all worth checking out.

Yeah, they are on the list cheers.

Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese the creators of Dark also have 1899 in the works for Netflix. I was a bit worried they be snapped up for some huge budget Hollywood blockbuster, but they're on contract with Netflix for a few more years yet.

Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese wrote the script for (and Baran bo Odar directed) a German film from 2014 called "Who Am I Kein System ist sicher", which is apparently very good indeed, and I believe the film that got the couple noticed by Netflix. I have the BluRay but haven't got round to watching it yet. I don't know much about it, other than that it's about computer hackers.

    Barry S2 - 9/10
Loving this and cannot wait for more. That episode from S2... those who have seen it, you know the one. Tremendous and utterly bonkers.

Definitely a great show all round and one to stick with if starting S1, as for me it started off as being 50/50 on whether I enjoyed it or not but I'm glad I did as it ramped up pretty nicely.

Yep that episode had me floored, totally out of the blue and magnificent, loved it! I enjoyed S1 but S2 took the show to a whole new level.

    Good Omens

Understandable given he helped write the novel but Gaiman really has captured the humour in a way that other TV Pratchett adaptations have consistently failed to do (Sky).

The narration adds a nice Hitchhikers Guide vibe too.

Unusually for an all star ensemble cast everyone feels like they've been properly cast and it's not just been named thrown at a project until there's enough to get it green lit.

    It's bloody excellent.

    9/10

    Jessica Jones S3 7/10

For me a decent improvement over S2 and it moves along nicely and has better supporting characters. Still 4-5 eps too long though

Mrs Chug and I are working our way through Mum whilst it is still on Iplayer, and it's excellent cosy summer evening TV. The Beeb does gentle comedy very well at times.

Series 1 gets 8/10 and series 2 is on track to match it.

    @BinaryBob101

My Austrian friends love Dark but when I tell my wife to watch it, she is too afraid of getting burnt.

We get massive amounts of turgid publicly funded tosh here.

Saying that I still need to find time to watch S2 of Dark...

    Westworld S1.

I really enjoyed that. The final episode felt like Nolan had a hand in it, with plenty of twists, though I hope they don't rely on twists too much in S2 as it becomes a bit of a bit of a trap and tends to damage shows in the long run (Lost, GoT). There are enough good characters in this show to carry it without the need for a Christopher Nolan twist every week.

The overall premise has been done to death in other media (Terminator, BSG, every episode of Black Mirror etc) but the setting makes it really different and the cast are fantastic. Ed Harris looks like he's having a good time.

Looking forward to starting S2. I might watch the original film first though, just to see what that's like.

The film is very different, it is more of a revenge film than anything else. It is pretty great though, although I haven't seen it for years.

Westworld completely goes to shit in season 2, you have seen by far the best it has to offer.

Hmmm, I enjoyed season 2 of Westworld but I love discussions and digressions on the nature of human agency and genetic predisposition and all that stuff.

Season 2 really suffered from them trying to make it twisty to compete with the first one and failing. It was just messy and felt like they had no real idea of where the story is going. It did still have some good stuff in it and it's certainly not terrible though.

What they really needed to do in season 2 for me is leave the part setting behind. It looks like that's what they are doing for season 3 and it's what I expected of season 2. Season 1 should have been the end of the park and taking the fight out into the real world.

I couldn't get into season 2 either, which was a shame as the first was excellent.

    Dark (S2)

Continues from the first season nicely and builds on it, It can be a tricky one to follow at times, but very well constructed.

    8/10

Chernobyl. 9/10. That was excellent. Attention to period detail was superb, Jared Harris and Emily Watson were brilliant and it told the story in a compelling way. Not the easiest of watches, nor for the fainthearted but top quality stuff.

I only started the first season yesterday and managed 7 episodes on the spin. Its not groundbreaking or incredile, just a highly addictive, breezy watch.

    Stranger Things (S3)

It took it a little while to get going and I found Winona Ryder and the reporter wannabe were annoying in places. There was also a bit too much angst in the first couple of episodes, but once it got going it was excellent.

    8/10

    Little Drummer Girl 9/10

Up there with the best Le Carre adaptations, everyone involved on top of their game. I know it was only 6 episodes but it sustained the same level of quality and tension from start to finish, which is rare.

The three main cast members were superb and extremely charismatic. Plus it has Charles Dance in it.

The Kiksuya episode in S2 of Westworld is fantastic. Probably my favourite episode of the whole series.

Ended up watching Schitt'$ Creek on Saturday night which is a Canadian sitcom about a rich family having to move to a small town (which they own) after losing all their money.
Lot better than I thought once it gets going and works due to the brilliant Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara. Not sure how it fairs after the first season but my other half binge watched it yesterday as she loved it.
