Given the content I'm not sure Euphoria can count as Young Adult (it's perhaps aimed at actual 'young adults' but emphasis on the 'adult', which the Young Adult genre isn't). Also, Brick is brilliant.
I see your point, but I think it still classifies. It's just not as condescending as most other Young Adult series. And it proves there can be more the the genre than protracted love triangles.

Going to have to agree to disagree on Brick (and I say that as a big supporter of Joseph Gordon Levitt) but I do recognise it's a bit of a marmite film, rather than being outright bad.

I understood what Brick was trying to do, and admired it for that. But what it was trying to do, did not work for me.

I also seem to remember a lot of mumbling, which did not help me when the dialogue was already (intentionally) archaic and hard to understand.

    Sopranos Season 1

Really good to be back in this world. Every bit as good as a I remember and hoped it would be. The script sizzles at times, the writing is fantastic. Surprised that even by the series end you kind of still on the outside of what is yet to come, it really does spend a lot of time else where (which isn't a negative by the way), be interesting to see how the series transforms. And I miss James Gandolfini :( His acting was seriously underrated.

    Happy

I wasn't going to finish it but as I only had two episodes left thought I might as well.

A very weird show both in terms of the story and also how it's directed. Very little is ever explained, there's massive plot holes aplenty and there's never really any sense that anyone is in danger. Ever. In a series that has a lot of violence, that's weird.

The jokes and one liners were quite repetitive as well, with the whole tone of the show coming across as a 'Roger Rabbit if directed by a 19 year old boy'.

That said...6/10. Somehow it remains watchable despite all of that, although I won't invest the time into the second series as it has definitely run its course.

(By far the worst bit though was the LIDL Ben Kingsley actor, who masticated throughout all of his lines....bleurgh.)

I'm amazed there's a market for a Lidl Ben Kingsley when he basically does every role he's offered.

"Thunderbirds you say? Well I'm already doing twelve other roles right now, but how could I possibly say no."

    Mindhunter (S2)

Fantastic show - the investigations and politics come across well. The doctor's relationship didn't seem to add anything and I thought that the issues with the son could be developed further and surely an FBI agent being investigated by social services would draw the attention of fis boss? Overall though I enjoyed it a lot and I'm looking forward to season 3.

    Legion (S3)

Very stylish, maybe too much on occasion, but for the most part if worked well. I even enjoyed the musical interludes, especially Pink Floyd in the final episode. Weird, yet still coherent, and if this is the last series then the ending was solid enough.

    Legion S3 - 9/10 - Full Series - 9/10

Yeah pretty great. It's pretentious, arthousey, frequently meandering on occasion glacial, BUT as an overall experience it takes the Mutant genre into places never explored and ultimately all those criticisms make the show much greater than the sum of its parts.

The whole cast are at the top of their games, Noah Hawley takes TV into places it's never been. Legion is brave stuff and fucking superb.

If you're a lapsed viewer give it the benefit of the doubt, return to it with the gift of the binge and that season two will be a much less problematic run for what it sets up later. If you've not seen the show, it's the best thing Marvel have done on TV in a country mile - get it watched!

Three seasons and done is probably the right direction for most stories on TV in the future. It's amazing to see a show from an auteur given the freedom to do anything.

    Escape at Dannemora

A slow burner tale of a prison escape, it can be a bit self indulgent in the time it takes for events to unfold, but it is very well put together. The performance are top notch and maintained my interest until the end.

    Euphoria

The definition of style over substance. It had my attention for a while but became fairly tedious by the end.

    Stath Lets Flats S1

Took a little bit for the vibe to click with me but I love the rickety look of it all. Over the top but carried by enthusiasm and a top cast.

    Justified (S2)

I enjoyed re-watching these - a modern western. The cast is good, and it's a role (like Deadwood) that Oliphant fits. The dixie mafia setting provides a nice contrast to the usual urban crime fighting setting. It gets a bit silly at times, but that's part of the fun.

Stranger Things S3. 9/10. Loved it, great cheesy 80s fun. Thought it was much better than S2, which took a while to get going imo. Interesting to see where they go from here... They can't surely use these kids, not as kids anyway.

    Mindhunter S1 7/10

Had a long break after the first 2 eps and then watched the rest when I realised S2 is out.

It's a very good indeed, well written, shot and acted. The central 3 characters are very well defined and the subject matter about the origins of criminal profiling behavioural science in the FBI is very compelling.

    Carnival Row

Quite a decent period piece with faeries and other races. I liked gruff Orlando, but not his girlfriend quite as much. The murder investigation played our well, as did the political intrigue, although that was heavy handed much of the time. The various romances didn't add a great deal for me, but overall it was a fun watch and I hope there'll be another season.

Deep Water (ITV). I'm not a fan of ITV drams, they usually wind me up and this one was not an exception but the wife had read the books this was based on so we gave it a go, also we are both not keen on series that go on and on for several seasons, preferring one-off series so we gave it a whirl. It was watchable but only just, I struggled to like any of the characters and share any empathy with any of them though each episode seems to float a long with plenty going on and a few 'shocks' along the way. 5/10.

    Warrior

Some good fights with a good enough story to keep things moving. I did expect more from the contention between the Irish and Chines, but that looks like it's coming in the next season. A fun watch.

More of the same goodness, but the new bad guy was a bit of a pantomime villain which knocked the shine off a little bit.

    This Way Up (C4 / 4oD)

Aww, I loved this. I felt it had a similar vibe to Catastrophe: beneath the snark, there's a lot of tenderness and warmth as Oine recovers from her nervous breakdown.

Couldn't get enough of Aisling and Sharon's accents.
