Utopia is up on Amazon Prime. In the process of a rewatch and it’s still great. Quite sad it got axed in favour of Humans |

Yeah I don't it needs another series but that one was brilliant.

Finished this at the weekend and absolutely loved it. Stylistically fresh and utterly absorbing, it had a cast of characters that seemed so unlikely to work at the start, but gelled beautifully throughout. Would love another series but think it wrapped up pretty neatly.
Giri/Haji
Stylish gangland/Yakuza series which the Beeb really should've made a bigger deal of.
Some very cool touches, excellent asynchronous storytelling, great performances (Will Sharpe, oh maaaaan), the scope is huge and the story personal.
Lots of TV is called cinematic these days but this really is
9/10
Seriously, Will Sharpe
That dance on the roof in the final episode as everything came to a head. Oh my god. -

It looks the part but it misses so many beats and is quite boring for something so large scale.
I though the black orb looked good, the tripods too. But while I get they were going for some kind of climate change allegory, all that post invasion stuff just fell flat.

Not a very good series especially when you compare it to last year.
There were times where it felt like I was watching a bunch of people that were just there for the paycheque. What makes it worse is that some actively chose not to take part in a few of the trials which goes against the spirit of the game and doesn't make for good entertainment. Things only really started to pick up when Haskell left and other people started getting air time.
So watch the last few days as your not really missing much before that.

Mmm well wow erm
Basically if you like nicholas winding refyn (drive, valhalla rising) this series is absolutely him to the max. 10 episodes, 60 to 90 minutes. Glacial, minimal dialogue, pretentious, gorgeous, fantastic soundtrack, exasperating, tremendous.
Take drive expand it to 15 hours and split into 10 episodes
If you hate him you will really really hate this
So either 10/10 or 0/10 -

One of the best TV series' I've ever seen. Expertly made and acted, Cumberbatch is outstanding. I real emotional rollercoaster from the first frame. -

Fictional documentary about YouTube on BBC 3. First series deals with not-Zoella, not-Joe Wicks, not-KSI and the nonsense of vlogging. Series two has a more sitcom vibe and is more about how wacky fascists have ruined everything for everyone.
It's extremely on the nose and dead funny.

Came hot on the heels of The Bodyguard on the BBC and deserves a bit more attention. It charts the days leading up to a terrorist attack.
I enjoyed the character building, particularly of Raza as the titular informant and just an ordinary guy trying to get by and whose life slowly falls apart as he exposes himself to this dangerous underworld. Paddy Considine is his contact and just an outstanding actor in anything he does.
A minor criticism I have is the reveal of who the attacker is during the final episode. It's been building over the series but there is no impact moment where you find out who it is which is bit of a let down.
Really enjoyable.

Well that was rather good. I struggled with the first couple of episodes as I didn't really get what was going on, however it built really well to a great conclusion.

Have started watching this. The first episode at least, which I enjoyed. But that was only an hour. The episodes are not only long, but the scenes are incredibly drawn out and the characters speak very slowly. It adds to the atmosphere but makes it hard work. Opening scene where the cops pull over the girl was particularly effective.

This was rather excellent. A good who dunnit in a monastery setting. The performance were excellent and very evocative of the time. No scotsman in sight though.

Gave up on the main show ages ago (tried to get back into it this season and its shit) This show is actually ok. The 2nd half falls back on the tired cliche of bad guys make the main characters join them or they will die etc They need to do something new rather falling back on this as the main show did these lots of time

This is getting better now. Forest Whitaker drags the whole thing up a couple of notches and it’s getting slightly less formulaic now as well. Although......turning Vic into an actual goodie, as opposed to an antihero, is a terrible move.
Still find Dutch the only genuinely interesting and likeable character though.

Went in with looooow expectations, not typically my kind of show. I saw it got panned fairly widely*, and conversely championed by the Applegeoisie, wanted to judge for myself.
First few eps were middling, reminded me of generic, shite network tv pre-cord cutting, but apart from one weak ep in the middle of the 10 eps (can’t remember which) it gradually got a lot better. Just watched the finale, excellent end to the season, really good show overall.
My fave show of current times is Succession. This doesn’t come even close to that, but TMS is nonetheless a decent watch if you persevere with it.
First 3rd I’d give a 6/10, rising to an 8/10 by the last few eps, particularly the (highly improbable) finale.
*I recall a Grauniad reviewer slated it initially but went back and totally revised their opinion when they’d seen the lot, which echoes my experience to a degree

It’s great.
No bloody tweeness, as Dickens intended, the book is meant to be an attack on the men of business and the world they created. It’s not supposed to be comfortable or easy to read/watch.
