The outsider - stephen king crossed with serial killer police procedural, more how they dun it, but with a lot of good character studies

Excellent 9/10 but it takes its time so not for those who dont like a slow pace

I was most surprised by how much of the depth of character they kept from the book

Bosch (series 2) - big improvement on the first. I suppose the added bonus of being online and backed by Amazon is they essentially used the first series as a character grounding for everyone, meaning second series benefitted hugely. Good, sensible overlapping storylines, excellent cast - props to Jeri Ryan being a sly blonde bombshell. Really does the seedy LA thing well. Looking forward to the next lot.

    You (Season 2) - 7/10

It's daft and extremely ridiculous. But very watchable.

    Paranoid

A seemingly random murder of a doctor quite naturally reveals a deeper conspiracy. The investigation was quite interesting, but the UK team were a bunch of mentalists, especially the female lead. How the hell they kept their jobs I don't know. The German team were much better.

    Sopranos Season 2

First season was pretty great, but this certainly takes it up a notch. I don't remember the show being as funny as it is, there some amazing quips throughout the season, and the last episode is one big fart fest. Seeing Jon Favereu play himself is slightly surreal as well.

The Sopranos (The whole fucking shebang) - 10/10

Just finished my 3rd rewatch and keep seeing new things in it. Gandolfini is immense.

    Breaking Bad - Whole Series

Just brilliant. The change in Walter White is immense and the moment Hank realises what's going on is great TV. The final few episodes are a bit crazy but it's still one of best programmes out there.

    10/10, yo.

    Unbelievable

The recommendations in this thread encouraged me to give this a try and it was quite a watch. It's quite distressing at times, and almost had me shouting at the screen with the injustice of it. The investigation was compelling and the cast fitted well.

    Castlevania Season 3

They really dial up the raunch this season. It's fairly slow paced but I personally enjoyed that as it gives time to develop the various strands that have developed, while the ending had lots of pathos.

It's probably the most Game of Thrones thing I've seen since Game of Thrones. And I mean that in a good way.

    And hello to Jason Isaacs.

I don't really think it developed anything much. They had about enough plot for six episodes, but had to stretch it out for ten.

I still liked it - particularly the last couple of crazy episodes - but imo it was weaker than Season 2.

    This Country: Series 3

So that is It then, Ker and Curtain have finished. I loved it from the first episode of series 1(currently rewatching) to the final episode last night.

Not a laugh a minute, but that is not just what it is about, it is a wonderful and charming show with a great cast, a good few from the Cooper family.

Will watch with interest what they do next.

I really loved the slow pace of Castlevania season 3. As well as the change of focus. Easily my favourite of the three. Some of the strands were more interesting than others though.

It's great that you liked it! But I thought Alucard's plot was kinda dumb (or at least uneventful), as was Hector's.

Isaac's thread was more interesting. Though his "why are you so racist to me, WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP ATTACKING ME" schtick was a bit weird, considering that he's travelling around with a small army of literal demons.

Anyway, it wasn't bad. Just a bit... unfocused?

I thought Hector and Alucard's stories were pretty well done. They did both have payoffs, but their arcs were both developing towards the next series whereas the here and now arcs were covered by Isaac and Belmont/Sypher.

More than anything else, the writers seem to have already planned out where the story is going - it never feels like they're making it up as they go along. It's pretty rare now that a series actually puts in the forward planning. (Cough Star Wars Cough.)

Yes, the Villians in this are dastardly. The acting is top notch by all the antagonists.

    This Country Series 3

Absolutely beautiful. And the final scene was perfect. What a way to end one of the best British sitcoms of the last decade+

Kerry and Kurtan are all time great characters and having grown up somewhere similar (if a bit rougher) it all feels so real.

    The Crossing

Refugees from a war in the future wash up on a beach. It's a bit obvious in places, but there's enough variation to keep watching. The characters interact well, and there's a nice small town vibe. Not brilliant, but I enjoyed it.

    The New Pope

Sequel series to The Young Pope. It still has Jude Law in it, but the main character is now Malkovich Malkovich. He manages to sell it, even when it gets really silly and trashy.

It's similarly stylish to the first series, but ramps up the sex a lot. Hell, the opening credits is just a bunch of scantily-dressed nuns gyrating around a neon cross to electronica music. It's somewhat equal-opportunity too, as you get to see Jude Law's buns on more than one occasion. Malkovich's buns do not feature.

I guess there's a plot too, but you don't really watch for the plot. Recomeded, particularly if you liked The Young Pope.

    8.5/10

    Curb Your Enthusiasm season 10

Larry navigates his way through the Weinstein effect, opens a spite store, and makes every blunder and faux pas you'd expect.

Honestly, the formula for Curb is so perfect I don't really think they can mess it up.

    Snowfall s3

Much better now all the character developments were made in the first 2 seasons. Now you're starting to see a lot more consequences to their actions.

Then they try and ruin it with one of the shittest finales I've seen. Who's idea was that to kill all the momentum they built? Rescued itself in the last 5 mins of the ep.

Would have been a 9 if not for the last ep so 8/10
