Weirdly I just noticed that Prime has the American remake of Utopia now.
    Quite liked the original.

Original Utopia was great, the remake isn't reviewing well.

Yeah 48 one star reviews by doesn't bode well. Original was genius. Cristobal Tapia de Veer music was amazing too.

Top Boy Summerhouse - I'm an episode in and it's already filling in some of the history. Quality seems as good, but there's only 4 episodes per season, so shouldn't take long.
It was originally a channel 4 series that got cancelled and brought back by drake and netflix. They should have all 3 seasons in the same place as it follows a linear time line from 1-3. Itís just confusing for people who havenít seen or heard is the original.

All of em are great by the way.

    Top Boy Summerhouse (S1)

I wish I'd watched these in order as some of the background makes more sense, but it's still a cracking watch. The fact that it's so few episodes keeps it tight. Pretty much everyone is convincing in their role, and it can be quite heart breaking at times.

Speaking of British dramas, Giri/Haji looks intriguing and is on Netflix. Anyone watched it? Though, it was cancelled after one season, which doesn't bode well.
Will Sharpe is excellent in this.

    Its good if slightly preposterous.

And Kelly Macdonald is always a welcome presence

Fuck me that was bleak, but still a great, if troubling, watch.

    Normal people

Good. Nice to see something more relatable and grounded when it comes to relationships and just people in general on screen. Does mean it does almost fall apart at times in its more dramatic scenes but at its core is an honesty that I enjoyed.

    Dark seasons 1-3

Dark, dense, complex German sci-fi drama that everyone else has already seen before me. Its really good, possibly over complicates itself in the final season and I have a couple of questions about some of the plot threads but man what a show.

Sounds like fan boy harshness - I'm on the second episode and it seems decent so far. Pretty weird though.

The best TV show in a long time. The last episode was immense. So fucking good.

    Dark Season 3

Utterly amazing series, unique, excellent acted and an incredible writing achievement.
Amazing they kept the quality right through till the end, even as the complexity goes nuts.

    Umbrella Academy S2

First eight episodes were brilliant. Funny, interesting comic book storyline, and Klaus being Klaus.

Then episodes 9 & 10 happened. Stuff started to make very little sense, and it all felt rushed and dialled in. Real shame.

    1-8 = 9/10
    9-10 = 5/10

    Black Books (S1)

I noticed this popped up on Netflix and not seen it for years. Curious to see how it held up, particularly as the likes of IT Crowd has aged pretty badly.

Also never realised just how much crossover the show had with Spaced - featuring the same producer and it name checks Twist.

Definitely some shonky early 00s editing and it highlights just how well produced Spaced was but the scripts are pretty tight dialogue is snappy and it sustains itself throughout the entire run.

It's also a who's who of early 00s comedy - Lucy Davis, Pete Serafinowicz, Kevin Eldon and about a dozen others make appearances. Dylan clear has friends.

    7/10 and easy watching

I tried rewatching black books when C4 repeated it and spaced during lockdown.

I really couldn't watch more than a couple of episodes. It was pretty grim and i used to really like it too.

Spaced was still great though. Keep meaning to dig out my series 2 dvd too.

Home by dark - An entirely ridiculous premise, young kid wants to be a journalist and sets about digging into a crime and uncovers a myriad of crimes and cover ups. Each new discovery seems to have several adults treat her like a joke, or even worse, take her seriously and allow her access to crime scenes and documents so that she can pursue her investigation.

And yet it all works for the most part. It is well cast, beautifully shot, and once you get used to the absurdity, becomes very intriguing. And it finishes with a beautiful set up for a second series.

    The Fall
    S1- 8/10
    S2 - 3/10

I don't think I've ever seen something shit the bed more than this. The first season had promise, even though there were warning signs.. The police being next to useless being one.

Season 2 was just woeful, contrived, outrageously unbelievable with events happening for little to reason other than shock factor. The babysitter side plot felt so forced, the police were even more useless and the whole thing annoyed me to the point I'm not even going to bother with season 3.

Sudekis has created such a warm character, excellent tonic in a world of shit. nick mohammed puts in a good turn and Hannah Waddingham is my new favourite watch!

Actually quite excited for Fridayís finale!

    Ghost series 2

The cast of Horrible Histories haunt Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Warmer and cosier than the first series, silly gentle fun, and again for a grown-up show a lot of the performances are quite cartoony.

I wish there were more episodes already.

Both series I feel like we barely got started before it was over, with such a large cast they definitely need more time also more Charlotte Ritchie, amiright?

    Utopia

It wasn't awful, but far from great too. It's nice and strange, but not so well done as say Legion. The main issue for me was some of the cast just didn't seem to work with their characters. I'm not familiar with the source, so can't judge on that score, but the story was engaging enough to keep me interested.

The Fall really was a one-series wonder. Everyone involved in making 2 and 3 need shooting. But again it's the trope of awful man kills women. Be more original.

Also Jamie Dornan has the personality of a brick so whatever.

    The Great

Really excellent and surprisingly funny. Even knowing it was by one of the writers of The Favourite hadn't prepared me for that. It lacks that film's weirdness (which was presumably down to Yorgos Lanthimos), but it almost feels like a seventeenth century take on Succession or something. Some slightly messy plotting means it's not quite a match for that, but it comes very close.
