Real Wire connoisseurs know S2 is the best one.
My personal favourite is S4 I think (the education one, that's 4, right?) Docks is a pretty good second though.
S4 for me too. Bravely hung the entire series on a bunch of unknown child actors but they were so astonishingly talented and authentic that it's the most gut-wrenchingly powerful fiction I've encountered. I mean, I know they're not real, but I'm still worried how Randy and Duquan are doing.

@You-can-call-me-kal I'm sure it was series 3. It was the one where they make dealing legal in a very small area to control the problem

Series 5 was the media and the phantom serial killer

    The Shield (S3)

The fractures grow wider and deeper, and Shane get's a girlfriend. The scattergun approach to story does have a frenetic pace, but also some unresolved arcs, although it's still watching everyone spark off each other and seeing the team dig themselves deeper.

    8/10

And annoyingly Prime only has the first three seasons :-(

In a sort of reverse rating, there are two series that are generally very rated but I can't get into for the world of me.
It's not the 'oh look at me being all edgy disliking something popular' thing, I'm not that kind of person; I genuinely couldn't get into these shows.

    First: The Good Place
I've tried it twice, watched as many as 6 episodes but... just no. I don't find it funny or entertaining in any way, even though I can see it's well made.

    Second: The Big Bang Theory
I couldn't even bear one episode. The laugh track completely killed it for me.
Now, I think laugh tracks generally don't improve a show but I've watched many that had them and that I did enjoy. Say, Father Ted, The IT Crowd or Friends.
With TBBT though, it seems so overboard it completely removes all my suspension of disbelief and, therefore, enjoyment of the show.

Um, well, that's enough venting for now. Sorry.

I can't bear five minutes of The Big Bang Theory, never mind an entire episode.

This gets posted everytime the show is mentioned, but it's worth bearing through to the end of the first season of The Good Place.

BBT though, I don't think you'll find many defending that show on here.

I went through a weird phase of not finding TBBT totally shit and almost enjoyed it for a little while, but it's back to nails on a chalkboard levels of enjoyment for me now.

Genuine curiosity: could I just fast forward to the end S1 of The Good Place? If it picks up at that point getting past the boring bit might get me interested.

Not really, as it's not a case of the show becoming better - more that it starts to make more sense. Hard to say any more without spoiling it.

@Kay So you're basically saying: it's a bit shit at first but it's worth persevering?

Yep, pretty much. And before you know it,you give a shit about the characters. It's rarely laugh-out-loud but it's a nice gentle comedy

    Jack Ryan S1 (8/10)

Dodged this until now thinking it would be low budget and bloody awful, but is suprisingly great. Gritty, great action with an intresting big bad who doesn't twirl a mustache.

Slightly unsatisfactory conclusion to season IMO with time wasted on some questionable side plots, but for the most part top stuff.

The Good Place just seems like completely twee beige. I made it through 2 or 3 episodes.

Big Bang Theory is just utterly dreadful.

Big Bang Theory is dreadful. Good Place is great though, really picks ups towards the end of the first series.

I remember parks and rec being really meh in its first season, found its feet in the 2nd and went on to become one of my favourite comedies.

Might have to give The Good Place a watch.

Yeah Iíd echo all that on Good Place. It lacks a bit of an edge, but itís much smarter than it first appears and really grows on you.

It also really does get into proper philosophy in a more accessible and relatable way than anything else Iíve seen, if thatís your thing.

It's not so much that it finds its feet, more that it becomes clear what it's actually about.

You have to watch the whole first series of the good place. If you're not in by the end, it's not for you but it is one long, continuous story, so there isn't much fat and things are constantly evolving.

It's genuinely one of the most complete TV shows I've ever seen and one of the very few that manage a satisfying ending.

Add me to the Good Place is one of my favourite shows ever. And unless you watch the whole first series you don't actually get an idea of what is is. but don't spoil yourself go in blind.

    Also the podcast was fantastic.

    Safe House

Mini series thriller on Netflix that's solid enough. It's progresses at a sedate pace, and while the broad brush strokes are fairly predictable, there's enough twists and turns to keep it interesting.

    6/10

Isnít there some girl in The Big Bang Theory that all the nerds lose their shit over?

Iíve never seen it but one of my work colleagues said to me once that it would be right up my street - judging by the comments on here she must think I have terrible taste!

    Discovery S3:

An interesting premise, rebuilding the federation, is completely wasted on overwrought saccharine dialogue and a wet fart of a conclusion. At least Frakes's direction of the penultimate episode brought a little energy to the room.

Needs a kick up the Jeffries tubes/10

Agreed. Itís starts a bit daft, but if it doesnít have you interested by the end of Season 1 then youíve given it a chance at least.
