    I do have a WiiU.

Then I recommend you download Zen Pinball 2 and some 'free trial' tables to get a feel for it. There are more tables on offer than with the 3DS games and the physics are much improved.

One thing the 3DS games do have over this version though, is that pinball tables are far easier to read in 3D.

Obviously none of you chaps care about the blue bomber. :-) On the last few stages of this now and really enjoying it, its been a real treat to finally play mm4, 5 and 6.

The music isn't as memorable as 2/3, but I really like the rush upgrades in this, the power fist and jet pack are really nicely done.

It's not as tough as MM3/4 though, so I think I'll complete it next week. That leaves MM1 as the only one of the original 8-bit MM games I haven't finished- I always get to the Wily castle and give up, must give it another try!

@redcrayon They are great games and I love the classic series. I was lucky enough to grow up playing Megaman 2 after reading a review on it in Mean Machines.

I love that game, and have managed to collect the original UK NES carts of Megaman 1 to 4 and imported 5 and 6 from the US over the years. Never get much chance to setup my NES though so it's good to play them on a portable.

I can blast through MM2 but having not really put much time into the rest I struggle with the others.

I also found the slowdown that crept in from 3 onwards a bit annoying as MM2 ran like silk.

Did you get MM9 and 10 on XBL/PSN or WiiWare? I actually gave up on 9 after only beating two stages. I'll have to go back to that as well.

Super Little Acorns is half price...

I really should pick it up. I'm just not sure I need another platformer just yet. Has anybody picked up any of the recent offerings? I'm curious as to whether or not that Trials clone is any good. I've heard Dillon's Rolling Western 2 does so little to improve on the original that it's not really worth picking up. :/

The Trials clone is great fun on the vita, and looks identical to the one on the 3ds. Mind you, I have never played Trials.
  • Deleted user 30 June 2013 05:53:06
Cheers for that. I think I might just have to go for it! If you've never played Trials though, it's most definitely worth checking out Trials Evolution. It's in my top 5 Xbox 360 games. Great fun.

So I stupidly bought Mighty Switch Force on Sunday night. Mere hours before the price drop for today had been announced. At 3.50 is definitely worth picking up. Tight controls, great level design, a decent challenge. My only complaint is that there are only 21 stages, which makes it quite shallow at it's original price. As I say though, whilst it's on offer, it's definitely worth picking up! Go get it!

To my shame I only bought MM9 on Wiiware and can only do 3 of the robot master stages- bloody hell it's tough!

Bought Mighty Switch Force having been interested in it for a while now. It's not really what I expected though. I thought the video gave the impression that it was a game with big winding levels, rather than being a series of extremely short challenges, which makes it feel a bit like a mobile game.

Not that it's not fun, I just would have liked a game that featured a big Metroid style game world.

Some of the later levels are a bit more involved and long (especially the first time you tackle them). Though to be honest, I preferred the earlier levels where it's all about going from left-to-right as fast as possible, like it used to be.

    What's the consensus on Harmoknight?
  • Deleted user 5 July 2013 16:21:25
It requires amazing precision, or so I thought. I played the demo around the same time I played a demo of Runner 2, and I much prefered that. A little more forgiving, if still a decent challenge.

How comes GBA and DS (and even N64) games aren't available on the 3DS eshop? If the hackers could sort this stuff out years ago, I don't see why Nintendo can't.
  • Deleted user 8 July 2013 13:46:55
It'll all come down to promotion and keeping up a consistent release schedule. As far as i'm aware, with the Wii, lesser known titles on the NES, Master System and Commadore suffered against more popular games on the SNES and N64. As expected, the best selling games were the most popular Mario titles, with some other significant titles suffering as a result. It's annoying, but I think this drip feeding VC system they have in place for the 3DS and Wii U is to help promote games that wouldn't otherwise sell.

Er, Mighty Switch Force is currently on sale on the eShop. Though while I can find out the sale price, I can't find out how much it normally costs on there.

I'd love to see some more Genesis/Mega Drive games up on the 3DS eShop besides Sonic. I'm fairly sure there's a few of them on the Wii eShop which makes it baffling to me why they haven't been included on the 3DS shop too. I need to play Alex Kidd :(

Sega are soon releasing 3D versions of Mega Drive and Arcade games, including Space Harrier, Super Hang-On, Sonic the Hedgehog and Ecco the Dolphin. All have European ratings, I do believe, so its just a matter of when.

Streets of Rage as well, that'll be awesome to have on the 3DS.

GBA and DS games I can understand the appeal of. No interest in MD era games or older unfortunately.

A lot of GBA games are broadly equivalent to SNES/MD games though? It's not just about the age, a lot of SNES games like Megaman X and Super Metroid etc wipe the floor with their GBA equivelents like Megaman Zero and Metroid Fusion.

The problem I see is that we always get the basic, early games first, and personally I think the Megadrive's first wave of games just haven't held up as well as the SNES. Actraiser, Final Fight, UN Squadron, Castlevania IV- all of those are still great games, whereas the Megadrive stuff came out a couple of years earlier and it shows.

Streets of Rage is still good though, but SoR2 is one of the best brawlers ever made. All in all I'd much rather have the SNES/MD back catalogue than the GBA/DS one, DS carts still play anyway.

The problem with all 4 is that they'd suffer what we see with the VC for everything else- slow releases, with gems few and far between the dross. And there is a lot of dross on all those platforms.

    Opinions, eh :-)

Have I missed something about this? Yesterday it seems Nintendo announced that their Club Nintendo site has been hacked. Only Japanese accounts compromised apparently (heads up, JTN!), but still it's a bit bawws.

Probably not relevent to us so it hasn't been given much coverage. Seems like a weird thing to hack too, given all you can really do is spend points.
  • Deleted user 9 July 2013 20:00:55
    Damn hackers.
  • Deleted user 10 July 2013 00:33:45

Agreed SoR2 is excellent and have that on Wii VC. Absolutely brilliant brawler and I'd love to see that on the 3DS.

Gimme UN Squadron and Actraiser as well :)

I kind of enjoyed the demo as I do like my rhythm games but I found it quite tough and not as accessible as other rhythm games. I bought Rhythm Thief pre owned last week for 18 and love it. HarmoKnight needs to drop in price to make me take the plunge.

How often do Virtual Console games go for sale?

Was going to get some Master System games but at 5 a game, they're cheaper on ebay (or emulators).

No worries, apparently Nintendo sent e-mails to the accounts that were hacked and I wasn't one of them so its all good. My Club Nintendo account didn't have anything done to it and my username and password are different for Club Nintendo then they are for anything important I do online (not that I do anything important online). I don't even have a credit card.
