The amusing thing is it needs quicktime, which I don't have.

I remember in the not so distance past when this was a thread about a man wanting to make his mac faster. Now it is a thread about who is or isn't a cunt.

Pointless, seeing as we already all know who is a cunt.

Not here, it isn't. Or at least according to the last user survey (damn lies and statistics?)

Thanks for all the advice, you massive swathe of cunts. I'll get OnyX and Yasu and hope they fix it, else it's the dreaded re-install.

If you do opt for the reinstall Zomo, use Carbon Copy or similar to do your backup, as Timemachine will force you to re-enter all of the licence codes for most Applications, which is a complete pain in the arse, particularly if you *cough* no longer have access to said licences.

Might also be a good time to consider a new hard drive/SSD?

    "else it's the dreaded re-install."
It's actually a relatively simple and easy process.
I updated to Snow Leopard a month or so ago and it took more time to backup via TimeMachine than the actual install.

That's a MB rather than a MBP, not sure if it would be faster on MBP.

I work in a huge educational institution with many, many bearded geeks and I can tell you that Macs are as far from being mainstream as they ever have been. It's Windows/linux here.

    OS4 here, mr OS7 noob.

Which, BTW, was called System 7 and was the shittest, most unstable OS I have ever used. It was even worse than win98.

    Oh noes :(

System 7 did indeed suck and was horseshit. I started on 5, but had the enormous pleasure of moving into support around the switch from 6 to 7. You win, though *sob*

btw - I am not claiming that this split is universal by any stretch - I was very surprised at the (almost) parity myself, and my initial post was more of a comment about just how much Apple have increased their market share in the last couple of years. For the record, I use all flavours of desktop operating systems (Win, Mac, Linux*), so I'm not trying to bang the Apple drum. But, whatever, girlfriends, talk to the hand \o

edit: * yes, yes, I know that isn't ALL flavours, but I am not a bearded cave dweller, so am only talking about all flavours used by human beings

Edit: fluffling hell, deebs - OS 4 was released in 1987 - I was still using a Spectrum then. My encounter with 5 appears to have been via someone who hadn't upgraded their OS for about 8 years as well! Looks like 6/7 was the cutting edge when I was at University, which was when I first started using computers for anything other than gaming, and then started in I.T. Man, I feel old, but you are veritably ancient!

Maybe if you can find some collecter for it. Probably not.
