I don't give a shit about either to be honest. Season 7 was mostly bad, Season 6 was ok, Season 5 was terrible. No expecations for the finale other than that it'll be expensive and badly written. And book 6 is just never coming out either, so who cares. |

I'm not convinced his editor is even breathing anymore. I think he's just been sending transcripts to their email and been getting automated "sounds good" responses since AFFC.

George might well show up but it's a long video.

Registered 17 years agoSo the book is definitely coming everyone.
He's 'working on it' according to his blog post following the TV series' finale.
I’m still here, and I’m still busy. As a producer, I’ve got five shows in development at HBO (some having nothing whatsoever to do with the world of Westeros), two at Hulu, one on the History Channel. I’m involved with a number of feature projects, some based upon my own stories and books, some on material created by others. There are these short films I am hoping to make, adaptations of classic stories by one of the most brilliant, quirky, and original writers our genre has ever produced. I’ve consulted on a video game out of Japan. And then there’s Meow Wolf…
Meh, the TV conclusion is enough for me to be honest. The lack of activity here seems to indicate nobody else is very better either.
And I’m writing. Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is. THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done. -

Registered 9 years agoI am kind of curious to see if the events of the last couple of seasons (assuming they happen in the books) feel more natural when you've got 500+ pages to build up to them. It's nice to have some kind of ending, but I'd like to know how he would do it.
Of course it's all a bit of a clusterfuck, and I don't really envy the situation he's in. I hope he does finish them. -

I think the lack of activity here is more because he hasn’t written winds of winter in 8/9 years -

Registered 11 years agoBooks 4 and 5 were a bloated, meandering, ponderous mess and if he wants to wrap everything up in just 2 more books he's gonna have to do exactly what Benioff and Weiss did with the TV show. Cut, rush, teleport, skip, simplify. -

Registered 14 years agoThey're ponderous but I quite enjoyed them anyway. It's a good world to spend time in. Last 3 seasons of the show didn't actually feel like they were in the same world. 7 kingdoms became the 2 kingdoms where nothing has consequences. -
I'm considering giving the books a read, but it's an unfinished story which is really off-putting. -

Hopefully he will have finished the next book by then. Good luck getting both of them in the next decade.
I'm not going to bother for at least ten years or so,

Yes, if I thought he would ever complete it, but even if we get this one, someone else will probably finish it off, and I couldn't face that, still scarred by what happened to Dune

@Rogueywon
Leave Brandon out of this, he has enough series’ of his own to finish off. Mistborn and Stormlight in particular being far more interesting to me than an alternative conclusion to this.
