Anyone else have desire for Macs tempered by Jobs' reputation?

I was reading about Jobs last night and there are various accounts alleging that he's a proper cock - for example cheating Wozniak out of money while they both worked at Atari (I think), firing people seemingly on a whim, taking credit for others' ideas and so on.

And, while I've been lusting after an iMac, all this made me wonder about whether I should purchase one or not. I just wanted to get some opinions here, I suppose more for the discussion than a hand-wringing exercise. What kind of behaviour should we tolerate in people if they make quality things?

Very few successful people aren't cocks.

It wouldn't make a difference to him if you bought one or not.

I thought it was really cool how he denied paternity of his daughter, and left the child's mother to raise her on her own. Classy stuff, Steve!

Nope reckon Jobs is a complete twat of epic proportions with the biggest chip on his shoulder in history. Still love their products though but by jaysus the fans are like religious nut jobs.

What I find peculiar is that he's supposedly a buddhist and, clearly, does some very not-like-buddha shit.

We've got two macbooks and an iPad, so I'm not saying he makes his products bad. It's just this weird kind of disconnect. I mean, if I was browsing in a shop and the owner was a complete twat, I'd take my business elsewhere, as would others. But in this case it feels like the rules have changed about what we'll tolerate.

I like their iPhones, iPods and iPads. But not their laptop/desktop stuff that much.

    Also,

This is very true - you'd be hard-pressed to find a CEO of any company that you admire, who isn't a fucking cunt...

Bill Gates is the biggest philanthropist of all time by some margin.
  • Deleted user 3 June 2011 17:10:58
And well done to him, although it doesn't stop the other 99% of highly successful people from being cunts.

I love mac kit, and always have done. I can take Jobs or leave him personally. Deciding to buy tech product solely on your feelings towards the CEO is a very weird thing though...

I buy stuff because I like the stuff, don't care about who made it.

And why should a CEO's character determine whether you buy a consumer product?

This. Quite scary to think that some of the people in this thread are adults.

Is there some sort of certification program for tech goods? Something that tells the consumer this product wasn't made by the hands of suicidal kids in cramped factories.
