Yoshi's Island is Super Mario World 2 and is a rather great game. There's also Yoshi's Island 2, which could be seen as the third.
Personally, I can't see what else they can do with the series. The 4 player campaign was a great idea, I thought. The game could be harder on Wii U, but removing the multiplayer and using old templates wont change it's appeal. You'd still feel like you're playing the same game.
Maybe I just lack the imagination.

Problem I have is where do they take a 2D Mario and make it that much different. I'm a big Mario fan and agree NSMBU is a good game but that's all it is. I don't get the special vibe from it at all.
I adored SMB 1-3 and SMW but just think I've had enough of them in there current form.
Really looking forward to another 3D offering though. -

Registered 12 years agoYoshis island was merely called that for marketing purposes. It is in no way a sequel to Mario World and was never designed as such. All it shares the same is the subtitle on western shores. -
Wasn't me who named it. However, that's what it's called. -

Is there a Mario Party due out at all? I haven't played one for a long time. That could be fun on the pad. -

Mario is on Galaxy now, why would he go back to World?
I would love the next Mario to be super Mario world 2. Fully 3D. -

Registered 7 years agoI am probably going to get shot down in flames for this, but is there any reason why Nintendo wouldn't just be better off making software only with a peripheral to stick in another console?
I know they want to have their own control method for their games, which is fine, but surely the WiiU smartpad controller thing could just as well have been released as a peripheral for the XBox or PS3.
I'm not sure if that would be allowed by Sony or Microsoft but for a lot of people who can't afford to buy a Nintendo console just to play Nintendo games, it would allow them to join in.
Nintendo seem to have a strategy now of always releasing hardware that is much less powerful than the competition so it wouldn't make any difference to the games that I can see. -

They'd make less money. That's pretty much it. They make quite a bit from licencing, as well as lots from their IPs like all the Pokemon tat, plus of course a bigger cut on the games themselves.

Also don't forget some of the hardware that makes the Gamepad so low latency is in the console itself, so I'm not entirely sure it's be feasible to have it as a peripheral only. Might be possible, I'm not sure.

Registered 10 years agoNintendo must have ploughed a lot of money into the Wii U to get lag free gaming on the pad.
MS and Sony went with motion controls after the wii, I am sure PS4 would have a screen in the controller if it was easy and would just work. I'm not saying Sony need it or would want it, but let's be honest the more ways to play the better in the eyes of Sony, MS and Nintendo. -

I know it's probably sarcasm, but at least they're addressing an issue people that own Wii Us brought up. 5 seconds down from 15 is better than I was expecting

It is a massive difference to be fair, but I had no idea it was as bad as that in the first place.
Still takes too long imo. -

Hopefully after both it's feel pretty snappy. -

Registered 12 years agoIt is a bit strange to see Nintendo putting out a system which is getting a reputation for making people wait around via the OS and long loading times for games.
This was the company that kept on telling us that the time it takes to boot a CD was unacceptable when it came to playing games, so it was a good thing that they were sticking with cartridges and passing on the extra cost to us with a bit on top to sweeten things.
This was the company that forced a downgraded, low capacity version of DVD onto customers, then told us it was necessary to keep load times down, the harm to games due to downgraded assets and compression be damned. -

Just say it won't make enough money! Because that's a good reason. There is an audience for it, but I can't see it being a large number of people at this stage. -

It is. It has that whole baby concept, but the actual level design is very similar. It feels like a continuation of SMW in that sense.

I could never get on with Yoshi's Island. No idea why, I loved the art style and Yoshi's flutter jump, but the level design wasn't quite there for me. Almost reminded me of Rayman at some points.
Don't get me wrong, it's still fun, but I don't enjoy it as much as SMW.

Seems to be a good shout if you're an Assassin's fan - seems to be a bit too close to 3's release for me but ho hum. -
Tempting, actually. I'm currently playing through the Naval missions in 3 and as everyone else has said, they're the best thing about the game. You sink some ships and then get a mini-mission that feels like it's been ripped from the Prince of Persia games.
Fun times. -

Registered 10 years agoHope everyone enjoys NFS while they can, there is unlikely to be a follow up any time soon. From elsewhere on the internets, a developer speaks (apply salt accordingly):
In theory the Wii U could've been fine, if they'd supported it properly. but they totally and utterly dropped the ball on it by rushing it out before even their own studios were ready.
Anyone working on the console could've told you 9 months before it launched that it wasn't ready. they had no tools, no kit, huge problems with the SDK and hardware (that aren't much better even now).
The game we just made for it is the 2nd highest rated boxed game of all time on the console, and even we hate it. we've boxed up all our kit and have no intention of making any more games for it. -
