I was wondering about this actually. Does it also download any stuff placed in your download list while in standby mode?
Yep. You should be able to tell as the standby light will stay orange if it's still downloading something from your download list. It'll also quickly go orange about once an hour as it quickly checks for new updates.

Just spent 6 Hours+ playing Wind Waker, can't remember the last time I was this absorbed into a game. Sure is 10 years old but quality never dies and now can't wait for E3 in 6 months to see the next Zelda (didn't like skyward sword).

Meanwhile a friend texts me to say they have bought a PS4. Poor soul, he has never experienced Zelda, so thinks Battlefield and Assasins Creed is the best games have to offer.

I love Wind Waker, but I also feel that it is the the worst 3D Zelda. Just finished it on the Wii U, I really missed the motion plus controls.

Now I need a new Wii U game to play, either Pikmin or 101.
  • Deleted user 15 December 2013 00:48:50
Both are fine choices, depends how stressful of a game you want.
  • Deleted user 15 December 2013 11:42:42
In case you missed it, cex is selling darksiders 2 on wii u for a xmas wallet friendly 6.00

You can also get wiimote plus's for about 20.00

No need to thank me, its what I do.

Shopto delivered my Wii U package yesterday, the box looks pretty small considering it's got the console in and a handful of other games.
Ah well, roll on christmas day :p

Finally caved and bought a Wii U. Early Christmas present to myself for being good and, um, not buying one as soon as WW came out.

Setting it up now. I'm indecently excited.

Been considering picking one up myself today, for some reason. I've only seen one or two games really but they do look fun... I think I just want something new to play with tbh :D

Just bought a Lego City bundle with Rayman and Mario 3D. Had an N64 but never a Mario game, as I had shitty taste in games as a child. Never played a Zelda game either so tempted by WW, but would like my first experience with the series to be the Wii U's first proper game in the series.

Now that the 3DS and Wii U are slightly linked by the Nintendo ID, does that have any effect with the Nintendo Network Premium thing?

Do 3DS purchases now count towards the points?

Just get WW it hasn't aged a day and does things that even 2013 games struggle with. Like full open world with no loading screens.

It is a fine example of a Zelda game, so is a good one to start with. Although chronologically it comes after OoT, and if your interested Skyward Sword is the 'first' one.

Just wondering you had an N64 but not Mario 64 or OoT, what did you play?

The chronology of a Zelda game really doesn't matter. You don't need to have played any others to know what's going on.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2013 01:09:40
@kingcrowbar I don't think so, but at least you can spend the money you redeem on 3DS games.

In fact, you could do that before.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2013 07:57:11
I agree it is far from required but if played OoT before WW it does add to the experience. All of the under the sea, old hyrule stuff has extra meaning.

@Sharzam I'll keep a look out for any deals on it. My PS4 is arriving in the next hour so I've got plenty to do.

I wasn't ever really into Nintendo as such, it was just a games console to me, rather than something to experience Nintendo Games on. I had GoldenEye, Wave Race 64, ISS Pro 98, WWF Attitude (sigh), All-Star Baseball (got really into this as an American kid moved into my road, he had Mario 64, but we just played multiplayer games), borrowed Turok and Diddy Kong Racing(?) off a friend. Used to go around another friends to play a Smash Brothers game, no idea which one it was though. Could never convince the parents to get me PilotWings or Blast Corps.

I've still got it all in a box under my parents staircase, along with my Amiga, MegaDrive, Saturn, and Dreamcast. My PS1 got given to charity when I got a PS2, and the PS2 got given to charity when I bought a PS3... that I later sold to a friend. So now I can't play any old PS games if I wanted to and I need to pick one up for TLoU.

So, another Nintendo Direct tomorrow according to the front page.

Considering that Nintendo announced a large number of Wii U games in February this year and lots of them still haven't been released, I'm not expecting any surprises maybe updates on development progress which will yield gameplay footage. It doesn't make sense to overload customers with a massive roster of titles, many of which are years off from release.

What more do they need when they're already riding the crest of the Cranky Kong wave?

I predict they will announce two first party titles a month for the Wii U next year, including six new franchises that dont contain the word 'mario' in the title.

I'm hoping for a price cut and metroid. I am prepared to be very disappointed!

I'm guessing it could be something related to the new miiverse update on 3DS and account linking. That would be pretty cool. In terms of games, maybe a good christmas sale on the eShop.

Probably some indie titles and a bit of new footage of stuff we already know about.

Hopefully a few new games for the Virtual Console, maybe even a new system(s) and even more hopefully some sort of nice freebie for both Wii U and 3DS owners. :)

Call me CRAZY, but I would like Nintendo to make a game that actually uses the GamePad, similar to how they used the Wii motion plus for Skyward Sword.

... it is silly to think that since ZombiU, nothing has really made full use of the GamePaf.

    Not even from Nintendo themselves!

Game and Wario does, mostly. NintendoLand does too. That's about it, though even having it as a map can be a godsend.
  • Deleted user 17 December 2013 17:58:49
Indeed, while wind waker was not designed for it (duh) it really benefits from it. Item selection is always a minor annoyance in Zelda games as it takes you out of the game, so having the gamepad really helps to immerse you in the game.

But I agree it would be nice to see more clever uses, at the end of the day we need more stuff that could only work on the Wii U. As they said on a EG Podcast about the now current gen, the best stuff we probably couldn't even think of, and it will just appear.

There's scheduled maintenence for Wii Sports Club's online service tomorrow, as well. Either they're improving the ranking system, or they're paving the way for Wii Sports Golf, which would be a nice christmas present.

As for all this talk on Gamepad use. There's no point shoe-horning in ideas. Nintendo Land was great fun and shows off the potential, but it's a nice controller as it is. It's great for navigation purposes, in-game menus and hubs, web browsing, off-tv play and split screen play. Anything on top of that is a bonus in my opinion.

I'd love to see an RTS or Sim City-style game make use of it.

In the Wii U e-shop update, news has broken on a brand new shmup called Gaia Breaker developed as a download title! Exciting!
