It's a good game; but I bought it around the time I had Pikmin 3, the Wonderful 101 and then Mario 3D World came out.

Retro have been working on a new game for a few months now. No clues yet as to what. I reckon they will need a 2 year dev time minimum if its a Metroid.

Unless they did a 2D Metroid with graphics as good as Tropical Freeze which would actually be fuggin awesome and I would totally buy it.
I really hope it's a new Metroid. I reckon another 2.5D Metroid could work - for all the flak Other M gets, I loved it in terms of gameplay, graphics, setting and atmosphere. Also, those cutscenes did at least look glorious.

That seems like an extreme reaction. Are you sure you didn't have a pre-existing medical condition?

What is this other M?, there hasn't been a Metroid game since Prime 3!
  • Deleted user 1 March 2014 07:51:07
@jambii267 It doesnt exist, has been erased from the annals of history.

I wonder if the rumoured Star-Fox/Metroid amalgamation will rise again?

@Erek I'll agree on the music - I can't actually remember a single piece from the game now, whereas the music from Phendrana Drifts gets stuck in my head quite often.

The rest of the game's issues were down to the narrative, really. And I didn't mind that so much as it felt like Nintendo experimenting with 'modern' game storytelling; most of their games tend to be very light on story/narrative, so it was interesting to see them attempting something a bit different (for them), even if they didn't necessarily succeed at it.

Gameplay-wise, I loved Other M. It felt like a continuation of the Super Metroid/Metroid Fusion style, and while I do prefer Prime (the first MP is one of my favourite games), I'd like to see Retro have a crack at that.

I'd like Retro to try something different altogether. Like Geist 2 or Star Fox. Or perhaps a new IP. They did great bringing back Samus, I'd prefer they reinvent something rather than just an incremental update ala DK or even MP4.

The special edition of Pokemon Rumble is 14.99 in Game. Apparently that is a good deal as includes a couple of the toys and I even held the box in my hand, till I read the reviews.

I've seen it even cheaper on sale and it didn't sell! I quite liked Super Pokemon Rumble on 3DS with its dungeons and reasonable storyline, but didn't enjoy the arena battles. The Wii U version seems to be just arena battles. Still, I like plastic tat.

Finally unwrapped Rayman Legends and as I suspected from the demo, its not grabbing me. Played through the whole first world and a few other levels along with a pile of Murphy levels. It looks gorgeous, but the levels themselves arent that interesting or fun to play. Kind of platforming by the numbers and if the Murphy levels were removed entirely I wouldnt miss them.

I could happily stop here and never play it again, will see how it goes.

Its not up to either NSMBU or DKCTF. Bit baffled by the raft of 10's it got, guess it managed to charm people with the looks and the music levels.

It knocks NSMBU into a cocked hat.

Rayman is such a different beast I can understand people preferring it, but it's not for me or apparently Pinky. Both are very well put together games with plenty to enjoy if you get into them :)

My copy of Rayman Legends arrived today, will give it a try.

I'm hoping it lives up to the hype but my tastes differ mightily with those that review these games.

@Rhaegyr It does? Must have done that when I wasnt looking.

@Erek Agreed on that. You could hope that they'd see Other M as a learning experience in that regard, but this is Nintendo we're talking about ;)

Yeah, despite my earlier posts about a 2.5D Metroid, I think I would be more excited for that, too. But then at this point I'd almost contemplate buying Nintendo Land just for something Metroid-based...

Has it already been mentioned that Rare have been working on another Wii U title since November? Sorry, the internet is down at home. I'm years behind, already.

Also, i'm also in the camp that prefers NSMBU to Rayman Legends. I still think Rayman is a great game. It had more charm, but mechanically is less satisfying.

@Erek I saw my unfinished copy of Metroid Prime Hunters on my shelf yesterday and thought about starting it up again.

SM is an absolute masterpiece IMO. I have the Wii VC version, and keep meaning to do the content transfer. Maybe I'll get around to that today...

@Raiko101 I saw it here yesterday.

@Pinky_Floyd Yeah. That's what I meant! I also realised it had already been mentioned as soon add I made that post. D'oh!

@Erek Fusion is a very good game. Rather shamefully, I missed it when it came out on GBA, despite owning the console. I have it on my 3DS, and I was actually thinking of running through it again recently.
