So in anticipation of Mario Kart and *hopefully* a release this year for SMT x Fire Emblem, I am now a Wii U owner (is it region locked actually? Oh gawd the powers of impulse buy). Have Lego City Undercover and Wind Waker, gonna get Mario Kart and Wonderful 101 for free in the promotion. Have to get both Marios, and Smash Bros when it's out, and am much more excited for X now and for HD Zelda. Can't wait to get home and unbox the thing ![]() Does it make any difference to use my 3ds ID on this thing? Besides the combined eshop balance? Edited by TheMayorOfJugs at 15:40:52 08-05-2014 |

@TheMayorOfJugs Not really, but it's quite convenient sharing your balance between Wii U and 3DS. That and your Miiverse posts/activity feeds are combined.
If you've got a premium Wii U (The black model), you can register to the Nintendo Network Premium Scheme, which gives you a fiver back for every £50 you spend on the shop. It's far from an amazing deal, but if you go mad like I have you can redeem those £5 vouchers and spend them on either the Wii U or 3DS eShops.
I think the scheme comes to an end in December, though. -

I think the only real industry innovation to come out of the Wii is the Miiverse. Predictably MS and Sony were both quick to realise this and now have better offerings. -

(According to Nintendo Life) Nintendo are aiming to release both Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors in Japan this summer. If true, hopefully we'll see them in Europe long before the year is out. -

How big is this initial update? Might get someone to hook it up for me. -

I think we can be sure Zelda will feature somewhere. Apparently they were going to last E3 but felt it wasn't far along enough to do it justice, and they wanted to pimp Smash Bros.
Whether it will be a release in 2014 is another matter.

I really think the new NFC figurines will be a massive hit, especially if they include pokemon figures, only their marketing department can fuck that up, which is kinda what will probably happen. -

Registered 12 years agoI just bought a Wii U... It comes with Wind Waker.
What is this promotion TheMayor was talking about? I wouldn't mind some free games. -

@dominalien Buy Mario Kart 8 and register it on club Nintendo by the end of June and you can pick a free game to download. There are 10 to choose from, including Wind Waker, Monster Hunter, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, and some others I can't be sure of. -

Whats the connection to miiverse though?

Better from their perspective in that they successfully monetised it, tied it into game promotions. It's effectively free advertising and a case study in brand awareness.

@TheMayorOfJugs For what its worth man I'd suggest sticking a game in before connecting it to the internet. Most of the modern games will update the console to an extent making the internet update a little speedier as I found out. -

Wind waker was new enough, wasn't it ? -
@TheMayorOfJugs Yeah man, that should do the brunt of the work for you. I found it fairly hard to do a straight update with the internet so Wind Waker should do the job for you. -

Registered 13 years agoI've joined the Wii U club. Based in the UK, but ordering from the US as my GC, Wii and 3DS games are all North American NTSC. I don't like using stepdown converters, so I ordered the AC adapter from Nintendo UK. Now I've found out that the Gamepad has a plug adapter of its own, so it looks like I need to order one of these too. Can someone confirm this? Is it not possible to charge via USB cable or something? Thanks. -

Registered 10 years agoHi BurnoutJunkie
I have a USA Wii U too, I have one stepdown converter... so I have to charge my gamepad when I am not using the Wii U (and I think swopping the cables to the stepdown is going to increase the wear-and-tear...)
I'm not able to charge the gamepad any other way ... at least when it powers down, I can still use wii remotes to play some games .... -

@BurnoutJunkie it looks like it takes a DSi charger but, I might be wrong.
