According to Keza Mac Donald, it's actually really good. Also Molyneux is gutted about the E3 presentation, and says it's absolutely not "on-rails" at all. http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/08/e3-molyneux-on-fable-the-journey-%e2%80%9cits-not-on-rails%e2%80%9d/ My favourite bit: “When Microsoft came to us and said go do a core game using Kinect, the first thing we did was ask ourselves, what is important to a core game? And one of the big problems is navigation. We did lots of experimentation with pointing and pushing gestures and jogging on the spot – all utter shit. Extremely cautiously optimistic. Another snip: Peter describes an interlude where you’re going through the woods when wolves start chasing and attacking you in your carriage, leaping at your horse and tearing at its flanks. Your horse spooks and run off, forcing you to wrestle it back under control, before a wheel comes off the carriage, knocking your passengers to the ground. The woods around you are full of wolves – so you’ve got to fend them off, heal your horse, protect your passengers and repair your wagon, all at once. |

Registered 12 years agoThe E3 presentation made it look like crap, imo. Fable's my favourite XBOX IP... so, I'm hoping it's at least decent!
Not on rails sounds good, at least! -
Not to worry, it's going to be slated as shit from as of 2 days ago due to:
1) Bad E3 video
2) Fable
3) Peter Molyneux
I hope it's good, but it has no hope on the interwebs I reckon. -

We can always secretly enjoy it, though. -

Journey looked dire. -

So if all those didn't work, what did they end up using?
/senses that it is, absolutely, on rails. -
Just gets better and better....
Fable the journey is now a kids game maybe? -

I'm fine with that. Popping pirate heads in Fable always felt a little out of place. Unreal Engine though? Yuck!

Registered 12 years agoI was looking forward to this game but the demo certainly isn't doing it any favours with a over long tutorial, crap controls and on rails vibe to it. I want to advance faster but have to do it at the games pace. Meh. Will complete and see if opinion changes.

Registered 12 years ago@andytheadequate I gave in. I really wanted to enjoy this, and who knows the actual game may be better but I got easily frustrated by the controls. It felt like a series of Kinect QTE's/on rails shooter. Not the hardcore game Lionhead has been screaming about. -

Interest has been somewhat tempered. Extremely slow pace, Completely on rails, apparently.

Not played it, but on rails shooter with QTES isn't necessarily not a 'hardcore' game.

Ahem, so not looking so hot then? Shame, I was secretly hoping this would be good even though I detested Fable 3. -

Wanna sell it to me cheap? GF wants it for dancing and shit. She thinks they're amazing. Horses for courses, innit. -

Registered 7 years agoTried the demo. The controls seem to work well enough but it is incredibly dull. And it is also obviously on rails, but with the ability to dodge, similar to the gunstringer. Not sure why they were so adamant it wouldn't be on rails... -

Registered 13 years agoReviews are coming through for this and are all over the place, from 3 to 8 out of 10 so far. Notable publications are IGN with 72%, Giant Bomb with 60% and Destructoid with 35%. -
I hate to be that guy but Giantbomb gave it 3 out of 5 stars. Converting that to 60% is slightly mis-representative. Also review scores are shit so I'm going to get something more than and arbitrary number before passing judgement

Registered 13 years agoConverting it to 60% is misrepresentative how though? It's the same fraction, just written differently. Besides, I don't read Giant Bomb and took those scores from Metacritic. -
Well because it was never intended to be converted. They don't do half stars so their system is a broad and rough score. If they dealt with a 0-100 scale then a 3 in a 0-5 system could be anything from a 50-70.
