The thing is, they move things into artificial obsolescence. You will start to notice more and more apps only support iPad 2, then its the firmware...

Which is fine if it does what you want it to do, but there will be a point where they actively stop supporting it with new software.

The important thing to remember, and this is really vital, is that above everything else, Apple are cunts.

Yup - is true - but if you don't play the insto-upgrade game I think you can (usually) get more out of them than they get out of you.

Glad I stuck with my iPad 1. Don't think I'll go for this though. Can't keep up.

They aren't exactly comparable - but I'd put my money towards a PS Vita since that will be around for a couple of years before a new one comes along.

Android gets updates every week. Half of the discussion when it comes to Android is which version people have and if something or other will work. And the iPhone 3G came out three years ago. That makes it ancient in phone land and that has always been the case and has nothing to do with Apple. You can throw a hell of a lot of shit at Apple but the update cycle of their phones is a daft one.

If you're buying something with only a mind for potential future uses, you kind of deserve to be rinsed for cash. The only thing that is really required is up to date security patching.

What about those poor homeless folks who can only afford 1 iPad. It's not fair on them.

Thats not really the point im making but, yes, if you buy an apple product for use in the future you are going to get spanked.

I'm certain they'll bring a new iPack out this year since I caved and bought one, despite me saying I wouldn't until it ha an SD card reader.

And as for the iPhone 5 not being out yet I read that it was because Apple had designed it to be SIM card free and the carriers told Apple to go fuck themselves. Hence the whit iPhone 4 as a morsel for the Macheads to snack on whilst furiously masturbating over rumours on various blogs and forums.

I can never wrap my head around that argument. How is this different to what every other tech company does?

Apple artificially obsolete their products whereas it happens more organically (for want of a better word) with everything else.

When nvidia release a new graphics card, they dont stop making drivers for the old cards whereas apple would.

Every other tech company is already two years behind Apple when it comes to tablets and cuddly phones. So when Apple outdates themselves once a year by adding something trivial like.. MMS, a camera, multitasking or an SDcard reader say, it feels pretty fucking annoying.

Why not put those seven year old functions in straight away.

All the sexy new stuff in iOS 5 is ancient shit on other phones. Still, Apple decides that not all their phones should be allowed to do them. But I get it, in order for the averagebApple user to be able to absorb the changes they will have to come at a trickle.

Are you saying iPad 1s are no longer supported?

But they don't stop making 'drivers' for their phones. The analogy is good to the extent that when nvidia release some brand spanking new feature for newer cards that wont play as well with older cards they don't bother trying to wedge it onto older cards in the update. Just like Apple.

When you say supporting you mean they may not continue putting in their latest 'features' etc. onto it, not that they will stop will stop supporting it with security updates and the like I take it?

My old iMac from 2003 is happily working away in my sister's house as their 2nd PC. My 2006 iMac is functioning lovely (apart from its a bit noisy) as the PC I use for digital references, for when I'm drawing. I'm sure it would do other stuff as well.

Its only 5 years old, but it still works. Its not as if it stopped working when Apple released the next version.

I know plenty of people with the original iPhone still working perfectly. It may not have the same firmware update features as I do but nor does it have the same graphic heavy games as I do. Doesn't mean they haven't been able to update their phone at the latest update with everyone else.

What is your point then? Old tech doesn't get to play with new features because Apple are cunts?

Getting much out of the apple updates then? Much new software working on those?

Macs are different anyway (slightly), it's the gadgets that get obsoleted.

I get enough, and my sister doesnt seem to complain.

As for gadgets, my 80Gig iPod Classic says hello....what's that? Since the iPod Touch came out it hasnt been able to speak? Say Whaaat!?
