Led zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, rolling stones, bob Dylan, pink flloyd, black Sabbath, the who etc all released better albums in the 70s.
Not saying bowie isn't good, just laughing at the suggestion he ruled the 70s. Maybe if you a bowie super fan. -

But that's a good thing imo. Bit of mellowing and reflection never goes amiss, adds to the track
He sounds really old on it, but good to see him back making music. -

He said run of albums. Meaning they were all winners in a row, which is hard to argue with imo... It wasn't a direct comparison

Registered 14 years agoI don't mind the mellowness or reflection, just a bit shocked to hear how aged his voice has gotten really. Be interested to hear the new album though all the same. -

If you want to go run then led zeppelin still had a better run. 3,4,houses of the holy, physical graffiti, precense. 2 only missed the 70s by 8 weeks. -

Registered 14 years agoBowie has long been one of my favourite artists and I think the new track is not at bad. He has written so many phenomenal songs it isn't funny. Much of his best work is obscured by the more famous tracks on albums though. Quicksand or Cat People are good examples. -

Registered 15 years agoA discussion on who had the best musical output in the 70's is pointless. Horses for courses. Abba could just as easily be thrown into the ring for great albums. Whatever floats your boat innit?
No disputing that Bowie is a fabulous, inventive and interesting musician though.

Like I said I'm not disputing bowies quality. That is unquestionable. However led zeppelins output between 69 and 76 was to be blunt, fucking insane. -

Registered 19 years agoI'm sick of that track already because Radio 6 decided to play it every half hour, and between songs every DJ would go on incessantly about it and the man himself.
Radio 6 is weird - it's called Radio 6 Music but the DJs talk far far too much especially those 2 guys at lunch (Radcliffe and Macony?). -

Registered 15 years agoOne things for sure. Artists were developed back then. Look at the output of Van Morrison or Supertramp. It's almost an album a year. Amazing times.

Registered 14 years agoTo be honest, I'm not a huge Bowie fan, but he has seemed to nailed growing old gracefully.
Maybe he'll be dead next month.

Registered 13 years ago@Syrette Outside of office hours, it is less playlisted and less chatty. Some brilliant sessions on Marc Riley's show. Weekends are interesting.

Are you retarded? I laughed at the point that his output was unmatched and then later said he is quality. Now unless you are a retard that is bot a contradiction.

Registered 20 years agoJust struck me as an odd way to start your argument if you were arguing there were also consistently good acts in the 70s. Seems obvious to me there was a little exaggeration for effect in what Figgis wrote.
Also, I am a little retarded, thanks for asking. -
