Judging by how much support Square Enix has given Nintendo over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a DQ on Wii U. Question is, would it be a port of an existing game or a new one in the series?

At this point, I really wouldn't be surprised if Dragon Quest X was announced as a launch game for WiiU. IX sold loads worldwide, and it would give the system a real boost. I can see it working for both Squenix and Nintendo.

Also, it might get published by Nintendo outside Japan, that might affect it after the popularity of IX.

Let's get in early and start banning anyone who types Wii U in lowercase now.

I'd sort of thought that DQ had moved over to the handhelds, so 3DS or Vita might be the launch. But it's got a chance. Hope they have enough time to exploit the hard ware properly. There's probably a good chance it'll come out on ps3/360 and WiiU.

I though X had already been announced as a Wii title?

I think it was announced as a Wii title and they are looking at WiiU support, but they would be mad to ignore the 360 and ps3.

Nintendo should do all in their power to make it an exclusive WII U launch title, that'd be the Japanese market won.

I think they will announce it for a launch title for the Wii U. It has been developed initially for the Wii in mind, but I doubt it is far enough along to be finished before the launch of the Wii U (possibly by a few months). As said before, it would be in both Nintendo and Square Enix best intrests to do this and I wouldn't mind it. It would give long to develop the game and to have an epic RPG ready for a console would be very nice change.

I want Pikmin 3 and Wave Race; also a Pokémon Snap style game with the Wii U-Pad as the camera would be interesting.

? I don't remember much support in the 90s or the early noughties after their big falling out over Final Fantasy...

Pikmin 3 is already confirmed as a WiiU title.

It has - it's just been in limbo for ages to the point where we got news today that the first trailer will be given to those who buy the 25th anniversary DQ collection in September.

That coincides with Tokyo Game Show so I'd expect the title to be shown there.

Edit: I wouldn't rule out the possibility of it going to Wii U but it's unlikely because it won't have the console base to start with.

It will NOT be a launch or near launch title for Wii U, unless Horii suddenly decides to change the way he's done things for 25 years. Dragon Quest goes to the most popular platform with the highest install base. Among consoles right now, that is the Wii. The Wii U is an unknown at this point, so the chance a mainline Dragon Quest being announced for it is pretty much nil.

There's basically zero chance that X will be a Wii U title. And negative chance of it being multiplatform.

Sorry I forgot to add Pikmin 3 and Wave Race as launch titles.

    That's exactly the case apparently:

    DQ X Info.

Was distinctly unimpressed by the graphics and what little I saw of the gameplay; Earth Seeker seems better on both counts.

I was expecting a PS3 SKU as well tbh, this is a major coup for Nintendo and will have U consoles flying off shelves over there.

So, er, good prediction JTN, at least the first bit sounds right! :D

What's the reaction like on Japanese gaming sites, is it really that much of a surprise that it ended up as a multiplatform release after the WiiU was dated for 2012?
