Stuff like this always makes me sad for some reason.

It is my dream one day (which I will achieve) to head to USA and go on a massive expedition to see all of my favourite real-life movie locations. I want to see where they shot Twin Peaks, Jaws, The Lost Boys, Ghostbusters and many more.

Do you have any dreams to visit places such as these? Do you live near any famous movie locations or have any photos/stories about them?

Edit: Thread can also be used by any observant EG'ers to note current/future filming locations for stalking purposes :)

A Lucozade advert was being filmed outside our office last week -- I'm pretty sure it'll become a famous landmark once the ad is shown on telly.

I'd quite like to do the Rocky steps.

They are small and disappointing re Rocky steps. I seen a few in the US in my time and they have all been pretty underwhelming, all look a lot smaller than you think and a bit dull really. Shame!

Fuck yes! It just blows my mind that stuff like that is just sitting out there everyday. So many people must see it on their way to work every morning and not even look at it anymore, whilst geeks of the world will spend thousands of £££ to go and get a picture with it for an hour.

I've been to the fire house and library from Ghostbusters as well. Sadly Dana's apartment block was a matte shot on top of another building though.

There was a Sopranos location tour advertised a few years ago as well (not sure if it's still operating). I'd love to combine that with doing some Kevin Smith locations. Would be a bit worried about getting a cap in my ass in New Jersey though, as I've heard it's pretty rough.

A Christmas Carol was filmed in and around my home town, which I wasn't around to see, but the building I work in (an old Tudor Manor house) was used as Ebenezer's home and we always get people hanging around taking pictures and asking to go up to our office so they can hang out of the window and recreate that famous scene.

It's become more annoying now a days to be honest, especially when the Japanese tourists (apparently this particular version of the film is huge in Japan for some ungodly known reason - do they celebrate Christmas there???) don't understand why they can't hang out of our window and take pictures.

Just get some bright green wallpaper, then you'll get the true movie location feel in your own living room!

I took one in San Francisco outside a restaurant that was in Bullitt. Was pleased to see it still had exactly the same frontage.

Been to Astoria where they filmed most of The Goonies, but only passed through on a holiday. Passed this tree from Robin Hood many a time, as its local. Loads of spots from films in London, but only from living there, never on purpose.

I would love to do the Twin Peaks locations one day, not just for the geekyness of it, but its mostly in stunning surroundings.

Best location I have been to is undoubtedly the Schilthorn from OHMSS which I have done several times. Amazing place, stunning views, and a great ski down after.

Oh how about video game locations? Some of the tunnel entrances in GTA3 are apparently based on the Mersey tunnels :)

A mate of mine was in thailand and took a river cruise, which sailed past the shoot for the latest Rambo. He said it felt like they'd stepped into Apocalypse Now.

I personally saw Tom Hanks filming the Da Vinci code on Fleet Street in London, and on a seperate occasion saw filming of 'Children of Men' in the same street. It was the scene at the beginning with the 'sploding coffee shop. The amount of detail in the location was ridiculous for COM. So much stuff built (such as massive observation towers in the middle of the street), that didn't even end up being shown in the film.

They filmed the fights in the Power Rangers movie at a quarry close to where I used to live! It just looked like any old quarry, BUT I KNEW THAT QUARRY ANYWHERE.

Also, I saw them filming once.

Visited the castle used for most of the interior castle stuff in Monty Python and the holy grail (possibly the nerdiest post in this thread)

you can borrow a set of coconuts!

/resists easy joke about all of the content in that game being based on Liverpool.

That reminds me though, I also saw Samuel L Jackson filming The 51st State in Liverpool one early sunday morning. He got a bit 'enthusiastic' with swinging his golf club and actually twatted one of the extras in the face. They had to call an ambulance for him and big Sam looked mortified.

As a working Londoner, I'm always fascinated by the way the great city is depicted in film, especially from non-Brits.

Some years ago when I worked near the city, I went off searching for the Russian restaurant that features heavily in "Eastern Promises". Found it in Farringdon but was bitterly disappointed to discover it wasn't a restaurant, just some builders merchant office. I guess I was expecting to find Viggo Mortensen on the doorstep smoking and wearing sunglasses and a trenchcoat :-)

Another place I'd love to visit is here. No idea if you're allowed to climb all over it like Cary Grant, but I'd like to think so.

Google it (I cant cause Im on my iPack and copy pasting stuff is even more of a chore than writing posts).

Basically its a canyon a bit like grand canyon but with trees growing on it. In the mist it will look like some of the monoliths float in theair. They took some textures and atuff from therefor the film and thesimilarities are striking.

    Heres a photo I took

Can't move for famous film locations in NY. I stayed in the Village, right round the corner from Joe's Pizza where PP worked in Spiderman 2.

Yes, I am tragic in choosing that one to share with y'all.

Oh god I totally forgot about NYC.

I ate breakfast in Moondance Diner which is where MJ works in Spiderman.

Also had a pastrami and gerkin sandwich in Katz Diner, you know, where they filmed that scene in When Harry Met Sally.
