    Planes from Germany, the USSR, Great Britain, Japan, and the USA. So I can't imagine it won't be to be honest.

    Some more details from this interview with the dev -

    [GDN] So, for starters, World of Warplanes will only include warplanes with a first-person or third-person camera view?

    There’ll be third-person camera view in the game as well as sniper view for more accurate fire. No cockpit view though.

    [GDN] Will WoWp build on the lessons learned from the WoT development cycle and use the same game engine?

    World of Tanks was our first MMO title so we’re in a way learning the ropes of “MMO-building”. Every aspect of the game development like community management or support service or even deployment of server equipment was new for us. Now we have enough experience to make sure World of Warplanes will be a higher quality and polished title. As for the second part of the question, we’ll be using the enhanced and updated version of BigWorld engine.

    [GDN] How many factions can we expect in the first launch of the game and how many aircraft?

    Upon the release there’ll be three factions in World of Warplanes – USSR, Germany and USA. Afterwards, new nations will be added.

    [GDN] Will each of the three classes of aircraft be upgradeable in the same fashion as the tanks in WoT? Will there be cosmetic customizations much like skins with art and affiliation badges?

    The upgrade system will be like in World of Tanks with some slight changes. For instance, the player will decide on the number of machine guns they would like to be installed on particular models of planes.

    [GDN] What will be the major differences in the classes? Will it be weapons effectiveness, speed or maneuverability or all of the above?

    I’d say, all the above. Depending on how fast, maneuverable and powerful this or that plane is its role in the battle will be determined within a team.

    [GDN] Why was the particular era, the Golden Age of Military Aviation?

    When operating planes developed and used during 1930s to 1950s pilots had to rely mostly on their skills, not on numerous automatic control and aiming systems that were introduced later and made the life of the pilot easier. Moreover, WWII boosted the research and development of aircraft-building industry immensely.

    [GDN] Will this change over time and include rudimentary jets and perhaps helicopters?

    We’ll have jet planes in the game that were used during this period like MiG-15 and Me-262. They will mostly belong to the top tiers of the tech trees.

    [GDN] The economy is set to tie into World of Tanks, what’s the added benefit for gamers there?

    If you’re good at “tanks”, but are just starting your ”career” in World of Warplanes you’ll be able to boost your progress by transferring XP from one game to another and move up the tech trees faster and vice versa.

    [GDN] Does Wargaming see a large potential for cross-over there? Will tank players want to be aircraft players?

    Of course, we do. We’ve been always getting e-mails with questions like “Will you one day make a game like World of Tanks, but with planes… ” from our World of Tanks players. Moreover, we have whole clans from famous flight simulators playing World of Tanks.

    [GDN] What about plans on gameplay? Will there one day be the potential for a Blitzkrieg type gameplay where tank squads can call in air support from WoWP clanmates?

    We are not planning to mix tanks and planes in real battles due to different gameplay approaches of the two games and different size of the maps.

    [GDN] Will there be ground-based targets in some of the gameplay modes or will it all be open skies dog fighting?

    In World of Tanks one of the winning conditions in random battles is capturing the enemy base. In World of Warplanes players will have to destroy the enemy base. There’ll be a number of ground objects located on the map like fuel depots, tank columns or railway stations. Upon destroying all of them the team will earn a victory.

    [GDN] If there are ground based objectives will that also open the future to bombing runs with players flying escort missions?

    We are considering the option of adding “convoy” missions after the official release of the game. The task for one team will be to protect a squadron of bombers controlled by the “artificial intelligence” moving to the enemy base, while the other team will have to destroy them.

    [GDN] Also, staying on the ground-based theme, will there be AA fire that players will have to contend with and if so, will there be a ’safe zone’ out of the reach of those guns?

    There will be AI-controlled anti-aircraft guns that will represent a part of the enemy base. Of course, there’ll be safe zones free of their control - so one of the tasks scouts will have will be to spot AA positions and report them to their teammates.

    [GDN] Are takeoff and landing going to be part of the game? What about refueling and re-arming?

    Most likely, there’ll be no take off as we do not consider this element to be an important part of gameplay. As for the landing, we’ll probably leave it as an option – after the battle is finished the player will be able to land for an extra amount of XP points. In case of an unlucky landing he’ll have to pay for all the repairs.

    [GDN] So, World of Warships coming soon?

    In fact we just announced it today at GamesCom 2011.

    So not integrated combat with WoT which had been a rumour but hardly surprising and confirmation of World of Warships! \o/

    Only gutted that the UK planes are not there on release.

    2 different games:

    World of Planes - Gaijin Entertainment (IL2 console ports, Wings of Prey) - sim?
    World of Warplanes - (The World of Tanks people) - arcade?

    That's not confusing at all ;-)

    So this was utter garbage for the first few patches but it's been changed quite a bit in the latest big patch. it now. Still a lot of work to make it as polished as WT but the potential is certainly there now.
