It is my honest opinion that governments, for the most part, no longer serve the people, but rather themselves and their corporate masters.
I think you'll find that that was the usual state of affairs throughout human history. -
What started the riots was a thug shot at police officers and they shot back killing him in the process. Apprently the people rioting have a problem with this. -

Fuckin' 'ell! I didn't see that one coming!
There's no agenda and no message being sent, it's just a bunch of dickheads using the flimsiest excuse to start something so they can feel big about themselves. There's no more thought or meaning behind this than any pub fight or match day punch up. -

I saw some preacher on the news shouting how they had right to ask the questions and how they had to wait four to five hours.
Who are these morons? I understand wanting answers and the right to have them answered satisfactorily - but after five hours? Didn't they read the news about the investigation, or the news where a shot was fired at a copper? -

Registered 16 years agoI'd be interested to hear what action you think a teenager with no job, prospects, money, decent education, or future should be taking.
I don't think you guys really know how bad it is for them at the moment. A whole generation have been lost to this recession. -

Please...I was born into a family that lived below the poverty line. We never felt the need to riot. -
You see, the great thing about statistics/macros social trends is that you don't actually matter all that much. -

Registered 15 years agoOh nothing like today's..only the 1970s oil crisis. Still when you are having to go outside for a shit and get washed in a tin bath, what's a fucking recession? -

Registered 18 years agoI'm assuming that there's more trouble expected tonight. Enfield town centre, which is three train stops down from White Hart Lane, was closed down half an hour early today, and the streets are absolutely crawling with police. -

The police can't win in that situation- if they turn up, they are accused of provocation, don't turn up and they are accused of abandoning the law abiding people who don't want their street smashed up.
Maybe that's why they were relatively restrained last night- less confrontational, the idea being to just stand there, keep an eye on things and let people tire themselves out rather than start a prolonged running battle in the streets, as flooding in enough officers to restore order would only have made things worse in the long run. The trade-off being a few coppers ending up in hospital and a fair bit of looting. -

Peaceful protest simply just doesn't work anymore. Violence IMHO is the only way (well the only way which gets results), the only way to get our, the peoples message across to the elites. The message that we won't take it anymore... We the people, will not stand paying for the rich/elite classes greed anymore. Violence is our, the peoples vioce... AND I SAY LET IT BE HEARD!!!!!
Our, the people's message?
I, a person (god that sounds awful), would fight, if need be, for my safety and freedom...against lawless rioters like these. I don't think it wise to try to speak for the people. That's why I speak only for myself. I find this violence deplorable, and hope this isn't a sign of things to come. -
Frightening stuff. -

Funny how when they're being abandoned by the system they're 'the community' but when they get up to these sort of deplorable hijinks they're suddenly 'the gangs', innit.
