Isn't Gillian Anderson playing Media? Absolutely inspired casting choice if that's true.

Not sure if I should get my hopes up.

    @Mola_Ram
Yeah, and she's listed as starring in 10/10 episodes, so must have a bit of a beefed up part compared to the book

I imagine once Gillian signed on they hurriedly rewrote the part.

Just realised, this thread needs renaming slightly, now that it's on Starz rather than HBO.

American Gods was a great book and this looks like it's going to be a great adaptation. Really looking forward to seeing it.

polygon have their review of the first four episodes:

American Gods review: This may be Bryan Fuller at his finest
    Hannibal fans, rejoice

    http://www.polygon.com/tv/2017/4/16/15313108/american-gods-review

Weirdly, after that headline they say "American Gods, although not quite as good as Hannibal, is some of Fuller's strongest work."

    Still, HYPE

Just finished rereading the book with all of Wednesday's lines voiced by Lovejoy- it works really well.

That was a good start. A nice sense of unease and dread from the soundtrack early on. I might have to finally get around to reading the book.

I imagine that someone who has not read the source material might have been a little confused as to what the fuck was going on in that episode. I mean, the arty weirdness is par for the course for anyone who's seen, say, the last couple of seasons of Hannibal. But still.

I really liked it personally, but I hope it doesn't put people off so much that it doesn't get a second season.

@Mola_Ram apparently a second season was already ordered prior to the premiere, there was a listing on a production site that said it would be shooting in September in Toronto

Thoroughly enjoyed the first episode, obviously weird as fuck (I'm assuming/hoping things start to clear up as it goes along) but visually it was pretty great, as was McShane.
Unlike Legion which just left me bored, I'm looking forward to seeing where this strange one goes.

American Gods is one of my all time favourite books. I read is ages ago though and remember almost nothing. I mostly remember Odin because he was cool. So in one way it's good because it will all seem fresh to me and then in another way it will be as confusing to me as a newcomer, I suppose.

Does anybody know how close this adaption follows the book?

Might want to spoiler that for the three people who haven't read the book :)

Thought it was great. Suitably fucked up and a real sense of menace. Thought the buckets of blood were a bit overdone mind but I'm probably just getting old.

I concur. I also agree with Scimarad, someone's done good work with the soundtrack.

I presume you mean spoiler tag Odin? Doesn't seem much of a spoiler to me. The title of the show is a bit of a give away but spoiler tagged it on the off chance :)
