Well I randomly decided to start getting JRPG games on all platforms I own when it's not normally my genre of choice. I just had to look up why some characters are "san" and one is "senpai". So far it seems great apart from the music.

It's got me taking my Vita to work for my lunch break.

I think I might have missed out not getting this sooner. Now to get a JRPG for my one remaining platform. The 3DS. Decisions, decisions.

I already knew a bit about Japanese honourifics, but I defintely learned more about them from playing P4.

I'm alternating between this on the Vita and Pocket Card Jockey on the 3DS.. both complete time suckers.

I got my current JRPG bug by playing Xenoblade on the Wii U and rebuying Lost Odyssey. This week I've now started Last Remnant on PC and bought this. Also have Valkyria Chronicles on PC. Just my PS4 AND 3DS without JRPGs. Most good PS4 ones are also on PC

I've just rescued Yukiko, and now seem to be spending my time studying, doing odd jobs and generally improving myself....

How I'm expected to balance part time jobs, school work, the basketball team, music club and a social life along with saving the world is a bit beyond me ;)
  • Deleted user 10 June 2016 20:26:18
I have no idea what's going on, couple of hours in. Ace though.

Rather than clogging up the main Vita thread with my P4G musings, I thought I'd better use the existing thread... :)

Anyway, I'm making great progress having rescued Kanji-kun (love the fact his weapon is a folding chair!) - the Sauna dungeon was definitely a bit of an odd one - and now have my motorbike to get around town a bit more.

A large part of the game seems to be balancing your time between social links, leveling up yourself and getting ready for the next dungeon. I don't really know what I should be focusing on, so I'm spreading myself about as evenly as possible...

Also - a quick question: I assume my companions are limited to a single persona?

Yep, I used to do the dungeon as quickly as possible, then up my stats and social links and whatnot.

They have only one Persona each, yes, but you won't be lacking in power or stats or anything if that's what you're worried about.

@Flying_Pig A sense of anxiety over time management is a deliberate and arguably essential part of the P4 experience - spreading your time over different activities is probably the right call. As to Personas, yeah the MC is regarded as special because he's the only one able to change his Persona. All others are stuck with theirs - sort of - though can change their powers as they level up as you will no doubt be aware.

I'd imagine he's come across that issue. I'm at a similar stage and have had to swap out a couple of skills.

Yeah, I'm aware that I'll be needing to swap out some old skills to make way for new ones. I'm currently ignoring buffs/de-buffs and focusing on offence and healing...

A few defensive buffs wouldn't hurt. It's been a while since I've played the game but I seem to recall that they become more important as you get later in the game.

Oh, and don't completely dismiss the Hama/Mudo spells. There will be a few enemies weak to one or the other.

I didn't bother too much with buffs and de-buffs until much later in the game tbh. Some boss creamed me and i realised i needed to think about it eventually.

Chie's galactic punt saved the day many times and always made me smile.

I trawled dungeons with Chie, Teddy. A.N.Other for most of the game.

I'm in the mood for P5 after thinking about this now.

Chie and her big kick are great :)

I think I'll start finding it increasingly hard deciding which of my friends to leave out of my party...

I just defeated Shadow Yosuke and got the key to the Velvet Room. It's a lovely game but quite slow to get going so far. Is it about to open up or is it still going to be quite linear for a while?

It definitely opens up in terms of your daily activities but the story itself is totally linear (AFAIK)

I think there's a couple of different endings based on some conversations, but the story sections are mostly linear.

I've just done the third proper dungeon and things are taking a more interesting turn.

Is it the Stream bath or strip club dungeon you've done? I'm currently on the 7th floor of the latter....

    Loving this, but my word its risky playing on a single save file. I'm only up to Shadow Yukiko and I already feel a bit boxed in, only a couple of nights left, no SP potions left and managed to get her HP down to a third before she one shot me. Couple of questions;

    - How do you tell if you're leveled for the boss or not? I can handle the dungeon monsters easy, then when I face the boss she takes me out in one attack.
    - Are you supposed to be able to beat those rare monsters that run away? I've found a couple and they aren't weak to anything, with the damage I am doing to them even with debuffs it would take much longer to kill them than it takes for them to run away.

When I manage to beat her I'll make sure to do the dungeons early so I don't have to stress about them late on!

OK, so I'm a bit ahead of you, but far from an expert... To answer your questions:
    - You can't, as there's no indication what level any of the enemies are at. IIRC, you should be able to see when she's powering up her strong attack and Guard against it. Additionally, you should be able to equip certain accessories for your characters which increases their defense against certain elemental attacks.
    - You mean the Golden Hands? Yes, definitely, but they aren't weak to any attacks, so just hit 'em with your most powerful attacks (I tend to go physical).

FWIW, I've ignored debuffs so far...

I think the general rule was to do the dungeon, then do it again before the next new dungeon opens up.

I was mostly ok for each dungeon that way.

Cheers, its the double fangs that get me. Just wipes me out, going to grind a little bit and hope I can squeeze past, then try Vortex's suggestion. Didn't even know you can repeat dungeons.

The Golden Hands I can't beat in time, I hit them with everything I've got but they always escape. Hopefully I'm not missing out on much by not killing them.

The golden hands are brilliant for gaining experience too. You won't have the character ter yet but naoto and her skills work amazingly well against them.

Just bought a Playstation TV for really cheap yesterday. First game I played was this of course. Probably going to go for another play through, God help me.
