Dear Eurogamer group mind,

I have a couple of long train journeys coming up and fancy playing some pc games while I travel. I would like to buy a non-enormous, non-ridiculously-heavy laptop for this purpose. I can't find one I like the look of in the UK. Can you suggest any?

I can only assume nobody is replying to these latop recommendation threads because everybody's new laptops are broken already.

Come on, somebody must have bought a laptop recently that they are happy with. No?

I've been looking at i3 and i5 laptops for around Ł500 (mainly Asus, Samsung, Lenovo and Acer) but after doing a fair bit of research online people seem to spit at laptops without dedicated graphics, supposedly because the on-board graphics capability on second gen i3 / i5 processors is terrible.

Can anybody shine any light on this (or simply recommend a laptop) as this would help President_Weasel too if he's looking to do a little gaming on the train?

I wondered what had happened to this thread; maybe nobody reads the "online shopping" section. I always put the forum in "old school" view though so I didn't think it would matter.

I love my Sammy P480, I3 somethingorother, dedicated GF 330m GPU.

I suspect it'll struggle to play any modern FPS's, but is happy for Civ5, Starcraft 2 etc.

No idea if it represents good value for money, probably not, but it does a good job for my daily long train journey.

Cheers for the info. Personally I'm not too bothered about modern gaming on a laptop, as long as it has a nice screen, decent key layout, at least a dual core CPU and will output video at 1080p to my LCD TV.

I'm guessing most laptops for Ł500 would be capable of outputting a blu-ray file at 1080p, but I'm only guessing.

Are the new(ish) AMD APUs out in retail yet? They'd be ideal for someone who wants to play games on the go, but doesn't want weight and a high price.

Sorry P_W - I've not looked at laptops in a long while so I don't really know what's worth getting, other than those AMD jobs, if they're available.
