Broken Laptop

Ok, 2011 MacBook Pro has developed a tendency to seize up seemingly when its using the high end graphics card if I have diagnosed the problem correctly. It's been to the Apple Store and as far as they could tell it was most likely some duff memory 'somewhere' inside it and I am guessing probably on the graphics card.

They basically said it could well be in need of a replacement logic board, but unfortunately as it was a couple of months past warranty that would set me back £400 or so.

So, I am wondering if anyone knows any reputable places in London that would take a look at the machine and repair it for less than Apple?

Logic boards cost a fucking fortune. That's quite a reasonable quote.

I would phone apples customer service, lay it on thick about it being just out of warranty and how you can't afford to have it done.

If you have any other apple products emphasise you are brand loyal and tell them what you have.

If the wind is blowing the righ way, they will authorise the repair to be done for free.

@nickthegun Yeah that was what I tried at the Apple store, no luck sadly, and that was bit ago now. I've been keeping hold of the thing until I had some spare cash so its at least 6 months past warranty now.

Shame. You should have called them as their call centre staff are generally far more helpful than the in store ones and are actually authorised to do customer exceptions.

So, yeah other than that, take it outside, run over it with your car and claim on your insurance.
