    Name: Rockfish

    Location: Dartmouth, Devon

    Type: Upmarket Fish 'n' Chips

    Web: Rockfish

Approx price: 100 for 4 people, (3 courses + plus wine)
Description : Sited on the harbour in Dartmouth, looks like a regular Fish 'n' Chip shop from the outside, but has a pleasingly unfussy interior with around 20 tables. Very friendly and helpful staff, slightly pricey prices, but the best Fish 'n' Chips I've tasted outside a Rick Stein place. I had a Crab cocktail salad, White prawns in batter with chips and a knickerbocker glory (my first one since I was about eight years old!). Fabulous.

    Name: McDonalds

    Location: Everywhere

Type: Cheap slop for the busy, the poor and the morbidly obese

Approx price: 4 per person (wine and service excluded)

Description: Like eating in a nursery. Often full of feral ratboys and their fat, hollow-eyed paramours. Smells of grease, sweat and desperation. Background music of a type normally only heard blaring from mobile phone speakers on public transport.

Overall: where did it all go wrong/10

Name: St. John Bread & Wine

    Location: Spitalfields, London

    Type: Seasonal British

Web: St. John Bread & Wine

Approx price: 50ish for 2 people (lunch: 2 courses, 1 glass of wine each)

Description: Busy, noisey, rather cramped resturant in a former bank, with plain wood tables packed closely together. Ingredients are fresh & seasonal and the menu seems to change on a daily basis depending on what ingredients they've got, food itself is excellent - prepared simply but very well. The Eccles cakes they have here are AWESOME!

Don't know what it's like for dinner, but nice place to pop into for lunch.

    Name: Rosso

    Location: Manchester

Type: Italian inspired, though they cater for all. It's the gaff that Rio Ferdidnand it involved in, and it isn't anywhere as vulgar as you'd expect. The building is lovely; a grade 2 listed bank in it's day. The food is really good, the black ink squid is bloody lovely. Much better than San Carlo IMO, which I think is mediocre.

Price: expect to pay 60-70 per head if you have a bottle of wine and three courses.

Anyone eaten at Corrigans Mayfair in London?

Seems ok from the website but online reviews seem mixed. Mostly switching between price/portion, time at table, waiting times, etc.

    Name: The Hand and Flowers

    Location: Marlow

Type: Classic french cooking with a British twist. Hearty portions rather than arty-farty nonsense.

Approx price: 160 for two which included a decent bottle of wine and a couple of champagne cocktails

Description: The wife and I went here for our 10th wedding anniversary and it was bloody amazing. The restaurant is very small and intimate and the staff were warm and welcoming. We were both fans of the owner Tom Kerridge having watched him many times on Great British Menu, so the highlight was being able to order the duck dish that won him the competition on the show. Quite frankly the best main course I have eaten in my life!

Hawksmoor is great. There is one near Covent Garden now.

Any of these are well worth checking out if you have one near you. Mostly in Kent.

The Farm house is my local and the food is superb. I understand they are all of a similar standard though.
