Oh, Boo. Don't pretend you didn't eat any Ryan last year. You wore his scalp as a hat for three days! As for shit writing: "The first draft of anything is shit." ~ Ernest Hemingway |

Registered 18 years agoSplendid, splendid.
Already a much bigger starting line-up than last year and we still have a month to go before the flag drops.
I can hear the hum of creativity and it's deafening!
So, like, I heard it for a bit.
And then I couldn't, because I lost my hearing. Due to the deafness.
And...
Umm...
It's early!

Registered 14 years agoYeah, why not. I planned on doing Nano this year as I really need to get book 2 finished, so this is perfect. -
Chucked up a blank wordpress site for now - http://www.chrisgrapes.co.uk/nano/
Debating whether to stick to my usual writing ethics and stick to a basic but solid plot or go against my natural inclination and just mash things together eclectically and see what happens. -

Probably some nonsense at my hoster's end, they've been a bit flaky all day. Seems to be working now though. -

Registered 18 years agoHad a brainstorming session yesterday and chucked any number of ridiculous ideas in the air. Sifted through the results, and I think the beginnings of a coherent plot are starting to emerge.

Registered 20 years agoOnly 27 days to go. This time next month we'll be wondering why we were so keen =D
I was reminding myself on the train this morning that for all the plotwork I've done, I still don't know my opening scene, so the 1st could still turn into a staring at a blank page situation.

I got two days into last year but the urge to write has been niggling me all year so I need to have another go, for sure. Will sort a new blog out at lunchtime today -

Grinder looked up as the door opened. He'd been concentrating hard on a tiny circuit and it took his eyes a few seconds to refocus. The figure in the doorway was surrounded by light from the corridor, and appeared as a small, stocky silhouette. He frowned.
'Hello?'
The figure stepped forward into the light of the room and Grinder's mouth fell open in a mixture of delight and confusion.
'But, but...'
He didn't know what else to say.
'But... but...'
'Monkey?'
She smiled at him.
But... some bastard killed you!'
She walked over and slapped him on the shoulder.
'Death?' she said with a raised eyebrow.
'I kicked his arse!' -

So, blog posting - what's the deal? Do people post the day's output or are these used as more of a journal of what's happening on a day-to-day basis?
Mine: Difficult First Book
Edit - we looking for NaNoWriMo usernames? Either way, mine's DJMorton. Looking for buddies! :-D -

Registered 20 years ago@Rhythm - it's mostly the days output that goes up. -
Cool, that makes it easier. The idea of outputting 1500~2000 words and then detailing exploits for the day would be a touch too far

Last year, some of us decided to post our output as a daily chapter or thereabouts. Some days you've got nothing to post, other days you get the bit between your teeth and either put up a massive post, or two or three smaller posts.
Me, I aimed for a 2,000 word chunk every day.
It's nothing to do with the official NaNoWriMo process, but it concentrates the mind as, as mentioned earlier, it allows other people to read and then comment on your ongoing story, question the writer, poke the writer when the output seems to have dried up and so on.
Quite often this led to new ideas, helped when somebody found themselves stuck down a dead end etc etc.
If that's not your style, and you prefer to spend 29 days thinking about it, and then bang out 50,000 in the final 24 hours, feel free.
There's no pressure to post anything if you don't want to, but it definitely adds to the camaraderie and the all-in-this-together, bunker mentality. -
