Registered 17 years agoWoke up at 5 this morning with pain in my side. By 8 it was the worst pain I can remember and I was literally writhing in agony. Pissed blood and felt a bit better. Now in hospital waiting to be diagnosed with kidney stones. This is no fun! Codeine and ibuprofen combo is doing its job though. -

Registered 11 years ago@faux-C I've had kidney stones twice. I can handle pain pretty well, but not that much pain. I actually passed a stone out of my dick, and heard it go ding on the toilet. And i get a bollocking from the hospital staff for not pissing it in the bottle at the side of my bed, so they can examine it, or put it in a trophy case deep in their vault.
It is a fucking rough ride, and my kidneys have never been the same again since. -

My wife is away for work so last night I drank whisky until 1am, got woken up by the kids at 4:30 then we all slept in until 7:30 before running them to the nursery in a haze of confusion. Shook it off with a double espresso and now I'm crushing through work but I still feel kind of woozy.
* not really, get well soon everyone -

Registered 15 years agoI have the feeling I too am brewing some stones. Left kidney is fucking killing me, and it stung like a cunt when I pissed earlier. Slightly browner than usual too. Either stones, or UTI, either way I aint happy. -

The other day I needed a wee pretty bad, but was in a traffic jam. I just about made it home but my kidneys hurt a bit and the balloon knot got a bit leaky towards the end -
Edit: Too much info

With lemon, apparently citrus is supposed to sort them out, dissolves the stones.

Make sure to dilute the lemon appropriately. Like to one part in 10,000 or so.

There's me showing my age. From the days before Stewart Lee became some sort of comedy oracle. And Richard Herring became a sort of performing tramp.
According to the data that comes with the test for citric acid in urine, things that can elevate citric acid levels are a high carb diet, or vitamin D (also, Estrogen therapy). Not sure a bit of lemon in your water will make it all the way through your digestive system and kidneys and end up in your bladder. But yeah, a dilute mixture in your bladder caused by drinking a tonne of water will tend to dissolve stones. But you can't really avoid that first soupy piss of the day. -

Registered 10 years agoI found out the other day that I have something called Meralgia parasthetica. Which sounds ace but is equally painful and weird.
My left thigh goes numb on the surface when I walk or stand for a few minutes, then when I move it more, it lights up my knee and hip with an absolute thundertwat of pain.
I've had it for 6 weeks now, the GP says they might have to stick a needle in my knee and hip (cortisone), fuck that shit! -

Registered 20 years agoWikipedia reckons you should wear suspenders to relieve the pain (instead of using a belt). Perhaps something is lost in translation there, but I couldn't possibly comment. -

I believe I've had something similar, albeit not acute at all. I know I often suggest alternative treatments but it might be worth finding a good acupuncturist and giving them a try.

There is some evidence that this may help:

I've been to an acupuncturist a few times for my back and beck and found them useful. However some a better than others.
