Is the pad useful for other stuff at least? Google have fucked me off by cancelling the free photos uploads already today, so I feel like they owe me some free stuff to make up for it. |

Registered 10 years agoTwo months 'free' Disney+ with any real money purchase on Fornite. New customers only I believe.
https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite/en-US/disney-plus
I've been waiting for an excuse to try Disney+ on the cheap and this seems a decent deal given the timing runs over Christmas holidays.
I don't play Fortnite but downloaded it on my PS4 just for this. Bought the cheapest DLC I could see (£3.29) and a message popped informing me I qualified for the deal. All activated fine, and according to the people at HotUKDeals can be immediately cancelled to disable the autorenewal without losing access before the end of the trial period. -

Registered 16 years agoThe photos changes and the issue with the YouTube music not playing your own uploaded music via Google home unless you have a paid for YouTube premium subscription, means I'm likely to be going away from Google devices soon.
I was going to get one of their new Pixel phones at Christmas but that's off the list now. -

There's a tool which guesses how long until your storage runs out based on your current use: https://photos.google.com/storage
But yeah, Youtube Premium can do one. -

Registered 14 years agoI made the switch to Youtube Premium for that reason - have some Google Home devices, but couldn't stream my Apple Music via voice.
Had a free 6 month trial for YouTube and surprisingly loved it - all my music is there and voice commands work. -

Both have been downgraded under the new rules, with the compromise from Google being that Pixel owners can continue to have unlimited uploads - but now at the lower quality that was free to everyone before. Some Pixel devices will retain their original quality free uploads for longer.

Edit: that's from a BBC article on the change.

Registered 16 years ago@DJCopa see I won't do that.
They said that you would retain access to your own collection on your devices, even when it switched to YouTube, but they then removed access to voice commands, the main reason you have one of the speakers over a standard Bluetooth speaker.
I find that way of conducting business unethical.

Registered 14 years ago@kentmonkey Ah, I get you. I heard about Google Music merging and some features missing.
Also, like the ad-free YouTube I now get - I do miss that when on another system.

Registered 16 years ago@brokenkey it's not working on mine. I try to request a song and she just sanctimoniously tells me I don't have a premium account.
I've just played one song on YouTube music, from my own library, via Bluetooth for my son. Couldn't use my phone for anything else otherwise it stopped the track, and within a 3 min song it asked me to upgrade 4 times.
What's a good music app replacement for this shite? Just for playing from personal library? -

Old motherboard without NVME? Pretty unlikely as even my ancient I7 4th Gen mobo has some NVME support (probably older and limited though).

NVMe is pointless for the Series S/X. Did a few tests with both types of drive and there's nothing in it. PS5 remains to be seen, but if you're going NVMe for that you might as well wait for the gen4 support list to come out and get one to use internally. -

Registered 13 years agoAlso I swear DF did tests showing NVMes were a decent bit faster on the last gen machines, can't see why that would be different on the new ones. -

Registered 17 years agoYeah, I recall reading that even in a caddy the NVMe got better performance than the more traditional SSD. It's why I have one plugged into my Series X right now, in fact. -

You'll need an enclosure for it, and they're normally a tenner more for NVMe drives. -

Registered 15 years agoI was going to use one either internally on my PS4 which at the moment has an old 2TB drive in or use it external on a PS5 for storing/playing PS4 games.
Never thought to look into doing something similar with an NVMe but having said all that I don't yet have a PS5 (next year hopefully) and might be better to save the money and see what the support list looks like on that first.
As for the PC. It's an ancient duel core thing. Probably over 5 years old now easily.

If you back up your photos and videos in Original quality, these changes do not affect you. As always, your Original quality photos and videos will continue to count toward your 15 GB of free storage across your Google Account.
https://blog.google/products/photos/storage-changes/
If you have a Pixel 1-5, photos uploaded from that device won’t be impacted. Photos and videos uploaded in High quality from that device will continue to be exempt from this change, even after June 1, 2021. -

Some deeeeep discounts on things on Amazon Warehouse atm. They have 30% off on a lot of stuff.
If you're in the market for a decent mouse/keyboard/headset/other bits and pieces, you can save a significant chunk of cash. Nearing 50% off on some items compared to brand new.
