Does anyone know any good shareware programs to get files off a digital camera?

I bought a Sony camera about a year ago, and I've managed to lose the CD that came with it. It has a USB lead which will connect to the PC, but it seems that you need Sony's software for the PC to recognise it.

    Anyone had a similar problem?

Just download the drivers off the net. Once the camera's USBed up it'll read like a memory card; an extra drive letter will appear and you can navigate on and drag the shit off.

I *think*. If not, the driver will let you dload files using the OS' photo thingy - using XP?

I'm using rubbishy old '98 unfortunately, but that's a good plan, I'll check out the Sony tech support site, and see if I can find the drivers.

is it inbuilt memory, or a card of some sort?

If the later, get a card reader and you can use it like a harddrive.

I second Mentat's suggestion, much faster and doesn't use up the camera's power supply.

Are you using XP? As that has a handy wizard that pops up when it detects an external device containing pictures...

Its uses a flash memory card. I was thinking of getting a reader actually...

I think I'll try getting hold of the latest windows drivers first (just cos its free!).

Which image viewer do you guys use for pics?

The Sony one that was bundled with the camera was rubbish, so I'm on tucows.com at the moment trying to find a good (and again free) alternative. Any suggestions?
