Sabbath and Metallica confirmed as headliners.

Not exactly a bad way to start proceedings, even if you don't think the world of the latter.

Surprisingly this now has possibly the best line-up of any Download.

To go with the above, they've added:

Soundgarden, Megadeth, Machine Head, Anthrax, Fear Factory, Kyuss (minus Josh Homme), Devin Townsend's solo thing, Tenacious D, Periphery, BLS, DevilDriver (great live band), The Prodigy, Terrorvision (!), Ugly Kid Joe, Trivium, Lamb of God, Rise Against, Steel Panther, As I Lay Dying and more both announced and unannounced.

The only thing wrong about it is that You Me At Six and Slash's new band that no-one's probably heard of are higher on the bill than Anthrax.

And Chase and Status are somehow second to last on the main stage on the Friday, alongside the likes of Soundgarden and higher than Machine Head. Which is just offensive - but I guess makes a bit of sense as they're followed by the only similar act at the festival, The Prodigy.

Are Anthrax still touring with Belladonna, or did that come to an end again?

Still somewhat annoyed I missed the Big 4 headliner at... that festival a year or two back. You know the one...

    Belladonna is still with Anthrax.

Isn't Bill Ward well past it anyway? Thought the Heaven & Hell guy was meant to be better.

I wouldn't say he's past it just all the whohaa over the full Sabbath reunion and now you only have 3 of the original 4,and unfortunately I can see it being 2 out of 4 soon.

    Yay etc.

There was a point in the 90s where Terrorvision were stalking me. They were at *every* festival I went to. I once saw them twice in same weekend at different events by accident.

And, amazingly, this year’s Download will also see the debut of the RIP METAL HOTEL, the first of its kind indoor ‘pop up’ hotel located on the festival site, a mere hop skip and a jump to the main arena. Get this: each room will have two beds, thermostatic climate control, an en-suite wet room with toilet, basin and shower, storage space, a flat screen TV, and secure card entry. Not only that, all rooms will be serviced with with quality linen, towels and toiletries by dedicated Metal Hotel personnel, as well as offering continental breakfast,
    ROCK ON

The new album is very good and I am only an occasional metal listener nowadays.

This line up might tempt me to my first pure metal festival since 1992

It's as if Sonisphere aren't going to bother this year.

The only band they (Soni) could attract who could go some way to tempting me is Refused, but I'd much rather see Refused in a small club setting (they're not really a festival band) if possible.

dissapointed with sonisphere not announcing anything yet - had such a good time last year. And would def like to go again, the atmosphere and people there were amazing.

Download, i think is pretty much on the cards for me and a few of us. Mainy for soundgarden (For me anyway), but having opeth, tallica, sabbath, and kyuss, and various others pretty much is awesome.

trying to leave it late as possible before booking tickets to see what massive surprise soni as lined up.

Metallica performing the Black album, in its entirety.

Thats about when i stopped listening to metallica, i can give that a miss. Saw them on the Justice tour, that`ll do for me.

Sabbath and Soundgarden are on my list of never-seen-yets though.

Just had a look at the line-up poster and I'm now pretty worried about the amount of potential clashes betweens bands i want to see. Hopefully they'll time them so you can catch (bits of) both.

Weather for this looks a bit hit and miss.

Long as it's not torrential rain though I don't think it'll matter too much. Constant sun would be nice but a little shower here and there never hurt anyone. Plus everyone will be too drunk to really care.

It's raining in Leicester now, So I think it's safe to assume the grass in Donnington is getting a sprinkling.

I don't care if it's overcast the entire 4 days or if there's the odd light shower, just as long as I'm not soaked through for the entire time.

Well up for it now. Roll on Thursday.

From memory, the bugger with Download is the fact the main arena is so far from the campsite, so popping back to the tent for a bit if it chucks it down is not really an option.

I'm getting there tomorrow, about 6pm.

I should really start packing. I should really start washing some clothes. I should really start my all night of cramming for my exam tomorrow.
