@Darth_Flibble thank you. Wish they made these a bit more obvious and a bit earlier notice, so appreciate you posting them!

    @kentmonkey

No problem, they should give longer notice (where they can) to say these games are leaving as it as its quite a few games

There's a set of deals available through the Xbox dashboard that I can't even find a store link for- grouped as something like "huge discounts up to 75%".

Seemed like some of them were genuinely rare reductions rather than stuff that's been frequently discounted already - I got Necropolis for 6 quid, which I've been meaning to pick up for a while.

Just converted my Gold and Game Pass subs over to Ultimate, so now I'm all paid up until 17th May 2022.

I had more combined months than the 36 that it caps out at, but I'm still well in front. Based on the last prices I paid for my subscriptions I would have had to spend another 」110 to extend my subscriptions to the same date.

How do you combine them ?

You need to be in the preview program, and eventually an option to join Ultimate will appear in the preview app. Sign up for that and it converts your current subscriptions on a 1 to 1 basis, so if you had 12 months of Gold and 12 months of Game Pass you'd get 24 months of Ultimate.

Do you think Microsoft will try and get the jump on Sony by releasing next gen this Christmas or is 2020 the likely time?

I'd love to see Anaconda this year but reckon it'll be March 2020 with PS5 following in September.

@richardiox I知 debating about picking up a One X now but I値l wait until after E3

I was just thinking, they could replicate the 360 launch, release this year and potentially get a year head start on Sony

I got an X at launch so feel by the time new hardware comes out I will have got my monies worth. Probably wouldn't invest now but best to see what E3 brings as only 3 weeks away.
Like always, I know I'll be trading in my Pro / X against the cost of whatever next gen machine launches first. Back compatibility makes this such a perfect upgrade route.

Eek, 2020 is so close already! My body is ready. Let there be VR.... please please please.

Also, I need my X to make it's way over the fucking ocean. Been playing on a borrowed S for weeks now, and trying to play games like Wildlands is bloomin hard when I am trying to snipe a few (low res) pixels hundreds of metres away.

Have a Pro & if Microsoft say 2020 at E3 I知 getting an X the next day. If 2019, I値l hold out.

As you said, back compat with next gen shouldn稚 stop me from upgrading now if I have to wait a year till the next launch

They've been developing VR for a while haven't they?

I figured it was a dead cert for next gen, at least I hoped.

Exactly, we don't need it this year. To be honest 2021 would be fine.

Yeah, to be honest I wouldn't be all that fussed if it was 2021. It's going to be 20 though, which means we'll have a shorter gen than the last despite the mid-gen refreshes. Gen 7 did feel very long though, tbf.

Genuine Question: After playing on a Pro for the last few months (Spider-Man, Red Dead 2 etc), is there a noticeable graphics jump going to a One X?

    Depends.

From an Xbox One to an X the jump is huge on games that are X enhanced. Mainly improved image quality but performance is generally better too.

From a Pro to One X not so much... although RDR2 looks much sharper on X vs Pro.

The bump from the Pro to the X is more like the bump from the base one to base PS4.
There are some visual improvements and, in some cases, some performance improvements (the map loads a bit faster in Ass Creed Origins, for example - on the Pro the map appears but the roads take a second to pop, on the X they appear when the map opens) but you're only going to notice 99% of all of them if you have the same game on both platforms. Otherwise you're buying it to "know" you're getting the best version of things.

If you're swapping from the Pro to the X I'd say it's not worth the transfer fee unless you have a social group active on the new console and don't on Playstation. Swap next gen if you like the look of the new offering more.
If you're getting it as an addition to split your game time, well, then it just depends how much disposable income you have :)

@Derblington Cheers! Getting it to sit alongside the Pro I think. I miss Gears, Forza and tbh the social side of Xbox. Although there are some absolute crackers on the Pro, it can be a lonely place, ha!

I'm going to hold off until just after E3 and make the decision.

    @Darth_Flibble I still have it, I think.

But if it's coming to Game Pass, it doesn't make much of a difference, since I'm subscribed for the next three months.

The main advantage of the X is actually back compatibility - if you have a library of 360 games, or want to invest in one. The X enhanced BC games are stunning in 4K and I hope the next gen Xbox finds a way to "flip a switch" to make the vast majority of the 360/og Xbox catalogue 4K.

Turns out console graphics ten years ago were pretty fucking good, just lost to sub HD resolutions, poor AA and lots of screen tearing and performance issues. Heck, even SSX 3 from 15 years ago on my X looks jaw dropping with an absolutely razor sharp image.

Edit - if you're missing Gears and Forza it's a no brainer!! Every gears game at 4K with 60fps campaign on Gears 4. Forza Horizon 4 at 60fps or 4K. Plus every Halo at 4K60.

Guess the biggest question is whether you're planning on getting a next gen console at launch or waiting?

There is a whole lot of truth to the criticism that MS only have 3 franchises.
But the same criticism doesn't really hurt Nintendo and it's a testament to the games themselves - that the fans want to keep playing them and the series' are still going strong. I don't replay a lot of games - there are always new ones to spend time with - but I've played the Halo series more than twice already, and I'll go through Reach again once it lands in the collection.

An interesting thought off the back of this - Sony have very few current long lasting franchises (more than 2 titles), relative the huge number of franchise exclusive series: Gran Turismo, Everybody's Golf, God Of War... Ratchet & Clank, if the sequel rumours are true... Any more?
Otherwise they either end or have gone multiplatform: WipEout, Jak & Daxter, Crash Bandicoot, Sly Raccoon, Killzone, Uncharted, Syphon Filter, Spyro the Dragon, Resident Evil, Tekken, Twisted Metal, Infamous....

Hard to believe that Uncharted really has ended. Even if ND wants to work on other games, the series sells too much to just abandon it (I believe UD4 is the highest selling first party game on the PS4).
