I am going to the US next year, and was thinking of picking up an iPad. Then I figured, I can stuff a Mac Mini in my suitcase as well. I use my Windows 7 pc mostly for gaming, and watching movies on my television. How is OSx an upgrade to what I do already? |
Is getting a Mac a good option?

Registered 11 years agoI'd say no, personally. Can't see the point in them in the vast majority of cases (especially the iPad, but Apples in general), unless you just really like the OS. -

If you can afford it and are willing to put up with the ironically faggy attitude that follows you about (see above - 4 responses, all negative) then go for it. -

Registered 11 years agoEh? Only one of those 4 is hugely negative. -
As a media player under the TV it's very good. If want to do anything that needs real power then they're ok but not the best choice. -
I wasn't necessarily talking about negative comments towards the actual mac, more just negative comments. You have your usual retard selection above "toy, inflated sense of self worth, fanboys". All we need now is a mention of Starbucks and 'cult', and we have a full house of spastic. -

Registered 11 years agoI know, it was just a very odd choice of posts to prove your point. -

Registered 12 years agoI you do a lot of PC gaming, or game via emulators quite frequently some thinking is required. Mac native ports are a real step down, dual boot is a must if it's going to be your gaming platform. -

Registered 13 years agoYou can forget gaming if you've got a mac, and aside from that the difference between the two systems is pretty negligibe these days.
I've got a Macbook and a PC and for general use - web browsing, movies etc, they're completely interchangeable. Each OS has little quirks but nothing fundamental and nothing that changes the way you use them once you get used to some shortcuts being slightly different.
If you were getting a laptop I'd say mac since the build quality is great for something you're going to be carrying around and using a lot, but for something that just sits under a desk I wouldn't bother, especially if you want to play games. -

Agree with this. You (well I) buy a macbook for the superior build quality and design (and it is so vastly superior it more than makes up for the price difference), but for something like the mini which is going to be hidden away anyway I'm not sure there is much point. And forget gaming if you are getting a mac. You don't buy a mac for gaming, it can do it, but don't buy it if gaming is important to you. Like the Wii in that sense

I agree completely with this. I'm quite at home crashing Windows, OS or Linux. They're all fucking shit.
