Its not really just a score chasing game because there is quite a lot to explore on the tables themselves.

Just noticed that the game has a manual accessible from the 3ds game icon. Never noticed it before! Thought there was only an in game manual, which isn't much use tbh. Hopefully I can now understand how to play El Dorado properly. It seems as content rich as Excalibur.

Have hardly had a chance this month to game but got back into it today. Posted 45 mil on El Dorado. Bit surprised to see that Buenos' Excalibur high score has finally been topped - congrats to Raiko!

What table would anyone recommend I start off on? I don't really know how pinball works...

@el_pollo_diablo Excalibur, I've barely touched the others yet.
  • Deleted user 30 January 2012 23:40:07
Although there's a lot to do, Excalibur is probably the most straight forward of the tables. You don't really need to employ any tactics for the high scores. You can just mess about until you get a feel for the ball and the table. I'd check the table rules each time you play, in order to figure out how to bump up the scores more quickly, but don't worry about remembering any of it as it'll come to you while you play.

I find that Elderado and Shaman require a lot more thought whilst playing as it is far easier to lose the ball and there are fewer opportunities to bring in the big numbers.

In 20 hours of play, so far, i've still not really made an impression on the final table. I've just been enjoying the others too much.

Yeah same, played a fair amount of the other 3 but have barely touched earth defence.

You should give earth defence a proper go, it's a really good table (my personal favourite).

Having said that, maybe you should leave it alone so that I can stay in the top 3 on the friends leaderboard.

Yeah I might do, haven't bothered to properly learn the rules yet, it seems to me its got a slightly bigger gap between the flippers but that might just be my imagination.
  • Deleted user 31 January 2012 10:30:43
Shaman feels that way. Well actually I can swear that ball is pulled towards the middle of the flippers on purpose. I've lost two successive balls on that table without them ever going near the flippers.
  • Deleted user 31 January 2012 16:22:04
After playing a bit more I reckon that Shaman is vastly inferior to the other 3 tables. It just doesn't have as many modes and seems far more simplistic. Or maybe I'm just rubbish at it.

Excalibur is the most accessible table imo, with the other 2 being a little more difficult. Overall, Earth Defence is my favourite, followed by El D, then Excalibur.

What, what WHAT! Someone beat my score... boo :)

What I mean to say is congratulations, also this gives me an excuse to play it far too much again to try and beat (unless I don't have you as a friend Raiko)

I really cant get into Shaman, it always dumps down the side channels where I have no control. I don't use the nudge mind as I use the d-pad to flip so cant get to the thumb-stick in time.. perhaps that's where I go wrong on that table

Personally my favourites are Earth Defence then Excalibur as these seem to have more to do on them ( and are easier ;) )
  • Deleted user 1 February 2012 12:22:20
Using the nudge is pretty essential on Shaman and also on Earth Defence. I also use the d pad but have learned to predict when the ball is going to drain, so I have time to nudge. The ball drains a lot on Shaman but it's quite easy to activate the ball save feature.
  • Deleted user 1 February 2012 12:27:22
There is a way to stop the ball from going down either side of shaman. You have to set up kickbacks though, which involves hitting those tiny targets. It will go some way to helping you keep the ball in play. Some people have achieved insane scores on that table.

With nudging I can just about get there on time for Earth defence... and found it wasn't so necessary to get a big score.

On shaman its a bit too fast for me to get to the nudge everytime.. I just haven't worked out how to activate the big scoring moves on the table yet. Can get up to the raised ramp, hit all the targets and then spell CAST (If i recall) but then no massive score payout as yet!
  • Deleted user 1 February 2012 15:33:45
You may have to spell 'element' and then choose an element or spell. I reckon that will score some bigger points (I always stuff up at this stage). Or you can just do lots of double or triple combos by shooting the orbits. I am pretty rubbish at Shaman despite being able to keep the ball in play for a long time
  • Deleted user 1 February 2012 16:54:02
Ok, am on the train and have been playing Shaman. I have observed that you need to shoot the small flaming holes on the left and right to open the magical pathway. This then allows you to fire the ball up the middle to spell element. You then need to select an element (maybe this random?) and then fire the ball up the middle again until you spell cast. The letters of cast will flash red each time. Then you're in a big points mode. If you have not spelled element, completing cast just activates the ball saver.

Yes I think that's what I have been doing.. I tend to promptly die after achieving all that though before I can work out where those big points are tho

I have sunk far too many hours into this game, what a bargain

Raiko I havent got you on my friends list, can we swap friend codes so I can attempt to beat your score :)
  • Deleted user 2 February 2012 13:51:14
You're right. Doing all that is a lot of work for not very many points. The other tables are a lot more generous with their points.

If anybody else wants to add me, go right on ahead. Just let me know. :)

Some good scored there Raiko... I appear to have lost all my timing in this game... tried for a while last night and was failing miserably!
  • Deleted user 9 February 2012 02:05:53
I played today and couldn't get beyond 6 million on Elderado. The ball was just missing the flippers every time. Right down the middle. Infuriating...

As for the scores, i've still not set anything remotely acceptable on Shaman and Earth Defence. I've not spent much time on the latter, and i'm actually having to study Shaman as it is so damn tough. I've noticed we're very close on the first two tables though!
  • Deleted user 9 February 2012 13:29:03
And saying that, i've bettered my 32 million on Elderado with a flukey 59 million. Most of that came with the first ball.

And just when I thought my 45 mil was looking safe! Now you have forced me to play until I beat 59 mil...don't hold your breathe, though.
  • Deleted user 10 February 2012 03:01:46
It was a lucky score. My 10th best score on that table is 20 million, so I rarely get above that. Most of the time i'll get around 8-10 million, with the ball falling between the flippers all too often. I find it's the challenges you initiate from the idols that bring in the high scores. I keep going for them as quickly as possible.
