But then Klopp blamed the performance on the wind...

@Frogofdoom I agree actually, if the FA cup is pointless, where does that leave the even more irrelevant League cup?! I suppose the FA cup improves a PL title year, having said that I can't remember the last team to do 'the double'.... Arsenal or Chelsea?

I also really resent being constantly told by the BBC how important and passionate the FA Cup is! Oh boy, and when they interview a foreign player and he's guaranteed to say how he watched the cup growing up...no he didn't!!

@Jyzzy-Z the prize money is negligible in the whole scheme of things, so can't see that affecting selection. They put weakened teams out because of the riches on offer by staying in the PL or qualifying for the CL outweigh the chances of winning a trophy. History tells us that those mid-lower table clubs are probably right too, despite the 'magic of the cup'.

Give the games back to the BBC. Hell give ITV some but get them away from BT and stop moving games to suit TV.
And get rid of that stupid tombola of a draw, with old pros laughing and joking.
Never thought I'd pine for two old blazers in some anonymous panelled room at The FA, but at least they treated the draw with respect and importance.

I think the death of the FA Cup is being slightly overstated tbh. Big teams have always played slightly weakened teams in the earlier rounds. There's always been giant killings. And there's always been the odd team that doesn't see it as a priority and everyone rants at them for disrespecting the Cup. That's been going on as long as I can remember, certainly way longer than the current TV deals and probably longer than the creation of the PL.

It has lost some equity I agree, but I also think people just love the 'death of the FA Cup' narrative.

It's an annual trope for sure.

Not sure teams fielded weakened teams in the 80s and 90s as far as I remember, but that was an awful long time ago. :-/

Squads were much smaller in those days so not to the same extent, but they certainly managed them as much as they could.

In reality though, players can't play every game in every competition. Well, they probably could, but they would likely not be as effective. So somewhere in some competition a 'weakened' team will need to be used.

You have a squad of players who need game time and youngsters who need to play to develop so it depends on priorities.

What I don't really understand is mid-table teams who are not going to get into Europe or get relegated fielding weaker teams. I suppose if they put a strong cup squad out and managed their squad in the league that would damage the integrity of the league.

    Can't really win.

So I seen this comment, and I thought "the fuck game is he watching?" as I observed NUFC 2 - 0 up against a middling championship side, seemingly coasting.

Then I was reminded: I was watching NUFC 2 - 0 up against a middling championship side, seemingly coasting.

Oh, and that I was on fucking catch up.

But Joselu goal last night was totally fine...

No wonder VAR has a bad rep on these shores.

That Derby goal should 100% have stood in my book. Whatever happened to giving strikers the benefit of the doubt?

Agreed, should only be when it's contentious, like other places do it.

Anyway, good fight back from Derby. Justice done.

It would be nice if we could stop giving out two goal head starts, though.
