Arsenal were always going to drop out the top four at some point. Itís been teetering on a knife edge for years. I think there was a lot of arrogance in not recognising it was an inevitability, and part of that was giving players wages that would not be sustainable should that happen, and signing players like Sanchez and even Aubamayang who would quickly lose patience with not playing for a CL club.

Seems like that has now been recognised and the manager and recruitment strategy are far smarter. It is ironically not behaving like CL club that will get you back in it.

I think the wenger wilderness years were the biggest contributing factor. The dude did touch on that saying he was thought of as on par with fergie and that he would also be able to work miracles with massive under investment.

    Spoiler: he couldn't.
He so nearly did. 2007/08 was so close. Losing Eduardo and van Perise in a matter of weeks, then failing to adapt was so frustrating. Ultimately he couldn't keep any team together for long enough and we barely had a pot to piss in until 2013. Poch has done that so far, if he can either keep doing that or replace better than AW, then he will have done exceptionally well.

I think the marquee signings were fine. It was the strategy of a soliast pay structure and offering Bendtner etc £60k a week that fucked us. So much deadwood draining the bank. I don't really have a problem throwing cash at the finished article like Auba. It's a gamble of course, but if you supplement with some decent buys, it's not a bad strategy. Worked for Liverpool. Looks like we are trying to do similar with Perisic.

That's the excuse but spurs and Liverpool have edged you out and they aren't owned by nation states.
I know twitter and message boards aren't worth listening too, but it amazes me how many would get rid of what we have to bring one in. I know signing no one in the summer was frustrating, but we truly building something at Spurs, but it seems a fuck load of fans don't give a shit and just want instant success.

They also donít understand the rarity of a genuinely benevolent sugar daddy. Chelsea and City are incredibly rare exceptions, and even with them we donít know how that plays out in the long run. There are far far more clubs that have been fucked over in these circumstances.

I'd love nothing more than to see the house of cards at City and Chelsea collapse if their owners did a runner.

I'd probably feel a bit sad for the city hardcore fans, as they've been through a lot of shit before this lottery win.

Chelsea though, nah. Would be plain hilarious.

The City hardcore fans would be MUCH happier with misery, "same old Citeh" etc. So it'd only be their kids and the plastics who would suffer

Tbh, they've been there for over 10 and 15 years now respectively. Even if the house of cards did collapse now, I'm sure most fans would be content with all the trophies and superstar players they've experienced in that time.

The Chelsea house of cards may be collapsing. He now canít live in the UK and is apparently looking to sell the club. If he does heíll take the billion loan out with him.

For all the trophies, heís not invested in any infrastructure. No new stadium. No facilities. No training ground. If he goes theyíre potentially in a worse situation than when he bought them.

As for City, thereís a scandal there waiting to happen. Everyone knows theyíre being used to reputation launder. The recent leaks are the thin end of the wedge.

Just like all Arsenal fans were content with the decade of success they had under Wenger.

I see Utd got another pretty tough draw.
    City got another easy one.

I'd prefer if neither of them won it :)

If City get the winners of MU Chelsea in the next round it will be the earliest FA Cup final in history.

Ashley Cole with his first ever FA Cup goal. Won't be winning another trophy though.

Fair play to Swansea they deserved it today. Shame we hit the self destruct button because normally we are more composed than that. Our free kick that lead to their goal killed us
