    Greetings everybody,

This is the follow up to last year's thread.

It's been a tremendous past few months for gamers, which is why I've decided to create this thread a bit later than I did last year. There are plenty of polls/discussions and threads to determine GOTY, but what's been your biggest disappointment? What's your Shame of the year? Remember, it doesn't have to be the worst game you played this year - just your most disappointing.

    Mine has to be: Bodycount.

No, I didn't play the retail version, only the demo, but that's all I needed to play. I had been looking forward to it since it had been announced, it was supposed to be the spiritual successor to Black! With Multiplayer! I was certain it'd be fantastic. It wasn't.

    Dishonourable mention: The Nintendo 3DS.

Its launch price was far too high, its 3D effect isn't as immersive as I thought it would be, and it launched with a mediocre set of games. Despite Nintendo's insistence, I'm pretty sure there'll be a redesign within the next 18 months. Even though it's beginning to perform well now, I don't think it has lived up to its (admittedly lofty) expectations. It's definitely a good console, and i'll pick up the "lite" version when it's inevitably released, but it's definitely been a massive shame in my opinion...

Did Fear 3 come out this year? If so that gets my vote. Just really poor. Red Faction Armegeddon is my runner up.

The shame of the year is that you're still posting after subjecting us to this vile statement in the opening post of your linked thread:

    Dishonourable mention: Mafia II

Yes, it deserved that 4, admit it.

I think it has to be Duke Nukem Forever.

It wasn't a 2011 title (just a title I played in 2011) but I couldn't get on with Deadly Premonition, which was a shame because everyone else seems to rate it highly and I could see plenty of positive things during my short playtime.

One of only 2 titles that I've abandoned this generation.

And yeah, the winner is only ever going to be Duke Nukem Forever.

I'm not even going to get into it. There was nothing shit about it, unless you're a PS3 owner and value your grass textures.

    ;)

    Yeah definitely LA Noire.

Dishonourable mention to Dragon Age 2, which I actually liked but it was lazy as all hell and a massive step down from the first (which in turn was a step down from BG2, but that's neither here nor there).

Dragon Age II, closely followed by L.A. Noire.

Civ 5. It's good, but I genuinely thought I wouldn't need to buy another game again this year yet lost interest within a couple of days which is a first for any CIV game ever.

For me it was Uncharted 3.

I could list plenty of problems but will refrain from stirring a mutiny.

Lets just say I was left extremely dissatisfied.

    Test Drive Unlimited 2

Whoever was responsible for releasing it in that state should be ashamed.

    Brink

Closely followed with Red Orchestra 2.

Deus Ex HR on PC - stuttering broken piece of shit. Game itself was alreet but nothing special and not a patch on the original. Yet to have a good PC not even be able to run it smoothly on the basic settings was rubbish.

Honourable mentions for failing to live up to the hype go to Battlefield 3, LA Noire and Brink.

Haven't seen you for a while! How are you?

And do share, what was wrong with it? Apparently it's far better than Uncharted 2.

BF3 in view of expectations post excellent BFBC2 and in view of huge hyperbolic hype.

Definitely has to be Dragon Age 2 for me. Only played the demo but judging by my limited playtime and the review they removed everything that made the first game deep and enjoyable and turned it into a bland linear hack'n'slash.

Don't understand the hate for LA Noire. I found it pretty engrossing and it was nice to play something unique in a sea of samey shooters and sequels. But then, I didn't read many of the previews so I didn't really have high expectations. Perhaps people were expecting something it wasn't.

LA Noire was trash. Could've been so much more.

I'd go for Red Faction Armageddon. After the solid first step that was Guerilla, it could've been excellent. Instead, they disposed of almost everything I loved about that game and made a corridor shooter. Still alright, but uninspired and nowhere near as fun as I found Guerilla.

Still waiting for a game on kinect - when did that come out again? Surely that is shit enough to be eligible for this year as well?
  • Deleted user 6 December 2011 23:58:48
Hmm, a tough one this. BF3 singleplayer I didn't expect to be good but still failed to quite live up to those expectations. The MP is alright though so I couldn't nominate it.

I could get behind either Uncharted 3 or TD:U 2 but really I think it has to be DNF. We knew it'd be bad but did anyone think it'd be quite that bad?

Also Deus Ex is easily one of, possibly the game of the year for me so seeing it in this thread is surprising.

Edit: Dfawkes makes a point Red Faction is definitely a contender.
