Registered 17 years agoAre you sure he didn't mishear "Silas" for "Enemy Mine"?
Opinion here is pretty conclusive as to what the film is. You should probably correct him -
God lord... I would much prefer it to be Enemy Mine. -
/googles
The novel is set in the early years of the 19th century. Silas Marner is a member of a small Calvinist congregation in Lantern Yzzzzzzzzzzz -

Registered 17 years agoNeed help with two films actually
Old 70's (I think) about a man who worked in a prune factory and came up with the idea of putting a few less prunes in each jar, saving the company a fortune. He'd always wanted to become an artist so moves to Paris to follow his dream and his favourite artist. He ends up stealing all credit for his favourite Artists art.
Any Ideas?
Second, it's a more modern film and quite well known I think...
Less details about this one too. Mainly what I can remember is the end where the main character finds out he's not a successful artist after all because it's some Mafia boss who's bought every painting he's ever painted. He finds this out on the subway I think.
Help!
Thanks! -

The second film - possibly 'You? A Painter? Forgetaboutit!'. Or 'Gladiator'. -

Second one sounds like Enemy Mine.
Not many films can incorporate both prunes and the Mafia convincingly, but Enemy Mine pulls it off with aplomb. -

Registered 16 years agoI think that the second one is the 1998 version of Great Expectations with Ethan Hawke playing the painter and Robert De Niro is the mob guy. -

The Silent Running thread has reminded me that I am trying to find the name of another sci-fi space film from the 70s 80s.
The only but I can remember is the very very end so... The very last scene is one of the space men surfing back down to earth on a bit of space debris with the atmosphere acting like a wave, he may have also been going "woooh!"
