No, I don't need any more snipers. I wish the game would let you choose your classes.

And is anyone else still experiencing the teleporting aliens bug? I have only recently come back to the game and I find it odd that it hasn't been patched.

Enemy Within for PS3 appeared on Amazon at long last - just under 23 at the mo.

@thelzdking Teleporting or long-range-pulling aliens is an absolute sod, especially on Classic Ironman when it can unfairly kill your soldiers =/ I, too, find it odd that this problem is still outstanding. Hopefully EW will fix it.

I hope Officer Bradford continues his starring role in XCOM:EW. He's just so dreamy...

@RedSparrows That's a nice way of looking at it.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about whether EW adds a "new" campaign or not. I got in trouble on Reddit for daring to call it an "alternative campaign". But really, it's just the basic campaign with new elements, technology and story missions introduced. Whether it's "new" or "alternative" or "enhanced" seems like a moot point.

Presumably you can choose to play the EU campaign or the EW campaign, which just modifies the tools you have to play through the main campaign structure.

Are the maps the same then? Lots of new maps would be enough for me, so all the extra stuff is so much better.
  • Deleted user 18 September 2013 00:02:17
    New maps integrated with old.

@Bremenacht I believe there's twice the original number of maps bundled in, plus the original maps still feature. Whatever - there's loads of new maps. That's probably the addition I'm most excited about...

As long as the building site gets barely a look in then I'll be happy.

Abandoned another Classic Ironman after a some cruel luck fighting mutons and a cyberdisk, going to wait for Enemy Within now.

Nice preview on PC Gamer: http://www.pcgamer.com/previews/xcom-enemy-within-hands-on-meet-earths-new-defenders/

Playing my Impossible playthrough. Lost 5 countries so far, however I thought it would be 6 as Australia has max panic but they didn't abandon the project at the Council Meeting. Tough bastards.

Have we mentioned how proper shafted console players of Enemy Within are going to be? The extra EW stuff is being sold as a separate package on PC, but on PS360 you have to buy XCOM Commander Edition, which includes EU and all the dlc plus the new EW game, so if you've already bought the dlc for EU you're getting a raw deal. This is according to Outside Xboxs YouTube video.

Also, anyone wondering which console to get EU on, definitely get it on Xbox- the PS3 version is glitchy and graphically not as good as the 360 version. I know having owned and played both versions extensively. Probably the 360 version is a safer bet for this Commander Edition or whatever.

Iphone version down to 6.99 currently. Bad reviews about crashing though.

Is there a minimum number of civilians needed to be saved to pass a Terror Mission? Still on my Impossible playthrough and my civilians are getting slaughtered on this one.

I also had the luckiest break earlier. Two Mutons remained, one character turn left. They had warp spawned right on my team so I figured I was going to lose a guy so I shot at one of them with a laser rifle doing 6 damage. He did his 'Intimidate thing' and figured next turn I'd lose a guy or two. Except two of soliders panicked. One of them, the Assault guy, one shots the Muton with full health, getting 10* Critical on him and the Support guy finishes the other off. Mission over.

Does the save from EU cary over to the new one then? If so, I'll probably do the same as I didn't get around to grabbing the DLC.

Watched a 25 min gameplay vid of EW on Giant Bomb's YouTube channel earlier, and while they didn't ask the dev guy about saves, after seeing how the game works I think saves from EU have a 0% chance of carrying over.

The covert ops stuff looks like an interesting (and hard) distraction.

TotalBiscuit's posted an hour long preview of Enemy Within:

    (stupid hotlinks still borked?)

I must admit I'm both impressed but disappointed in equal measure.

There seems to be quite a lot of nice new features but it sounds (shudder) too easy. Mech troopers seem incredibly overpowered and boast a huge array of cool abilities. The new maps and inclusion of Covert Ops sounds damn good though.

On the plus side, however, it has given me the urge to boot up some Xcom for the first time in months to see if I can handle the soul-crushing nature of 1-shot rookie kills once more...

I think Firaxis know what they're doing re: difficulty. I wouldn't be surprised to see counters to some of these things, or more mobs, or even harder difficulties.
  • Deleted user 23 October 2013 14:50:30
I'd certainly hope so mate, the insinuation from that video was that the mechs needed a serious nerf (insofar as their power basically removed all necessity of classes from the game other than medic and sniper).
  • Deleted user 23 October 2013 14:56:49
Aye. Would be a strange oversight from the dev, given how Enemy Unknown worked well. Patch ahoy?

That will probably depend on how much Meld you can gather. I think you need it to make 'em, and therefore possibly maintain 'em too.

When interviewed (link should be somewhere in this thread) Firaxis said Classic and Impossible difficulties should be harder than before. I have zero concerns tbh.
