Yeah, that too. How expensive are we talking? Not that I can do anything about it given I'm stuck with Sky's equally shitting VDSL router. |

Registered 13 years agoOk so my £20 tp link router has improved the quality of my signal loads. Full signal strength all over the house.
However, none of my equipment seems to want to connect at "n", the max I get is 54mbps which seems to limit my broadband speed to around 24mbps at best. My home plugged PC gets 60+.
It's not a big deal but still mildly irritating!
Checked the router settings and the wireless mode is set to mixed. I tried setting it to N only but nothing would connect!
I'm right in thinking that iPads and Galaxy s3 should support N right? -

That's an access point rather than a router - so does that mean your superhub is still in full router mode rather than modem mode, with just Wifi switched off?

Im in the same boat and got one of these:
Are you with Virgin? I can get almost 60mbps wired but their router is terrible and I can't get more than 25 with it on wifi.
Don't suppose anyone can recommend a good cheap wifi router I can use?

For the price, you absolutely cant fault it. Quick, good range... everything the shitty superhub isnt. -

Registered 11 years agoDunno if anyone can help. Had BT infinity installed today. Working fine but the max dl speed I get from wireless is only 18mb, yet my phone wireless gets 39mbs in some cases no matter what room of the house i'm in. It's a linksys wmp600n dual band card, I've changed a few settings on the card to 5ghz only, also changed the home hub's settings to 40hz only, selected a single channel but still can't get over 18mbs down.
The computer is literally 2.5/3 meters above on the next floor from the home hub.
Any ideas guys? -
I'm happy with what I've got. -

Registered 14 years agoGah ... I'm tempted to accept an upgrade offer that my isp is currently providing.
I have a package for Digital TV + Fibernet (60Mbps dl/3Mbps ul).
They're reshuffling their product offering and packages and I've been offered the same package with double the speed and additionally a landline thrown in with free call in the evening and weekends. There's also an app that lets you use your smartphone to call through the landline at landline rates (so free calls evening and weekend through the app).
I did a speed test and my actual speeds are 57Mbps and 3.8Mbps.
It's a perfectly fine and speedy connection. The thought of getting a 120Mbps line is just very tempting.
The landline is nto really needed but could be handy I guess. Like when I can't find my phone, I could at least call it to locate it.
It comes free the first 6 months. After that it's about €5 per month more than my current cost. So €60 a year for an upgrade I don't really need but is nevertheless tempting me terribly. -
@Salaman
The thing to remember is will it start a new contract with a silly term. If your out of contract at the moment and free to do what you want, do you really want to upgrade and be locked in for two years?
That's why they do these upgrades. Perhaps there is a rival product soon to be avaliable in your area. -

Anybody know why I keep on getting major lag in games I play online? I've just done a speed test (6.9mps which isn't amazing but should be enough right?) and it seems everything is ok. My upload speed is practically 0 but could that be causing it? I can stream Youtube videos in HD and everything. I've even given priority to the ports Steam and Xbox Live use on my network. Yet I still get the worst lag ever. Halp. -

Registered 14 years agoA few months ago plusnet had normal BB at 4Mb in my area. Now they've introduced fibre at 40Mb the "normal" broadband package has suddenly dropped to 1Mb.
Either fibre sucks bandwidth from copper to increase it's own bandwidth or Plusnet are being gits. -

Registered 8 years agoI know I can't really complain about this on a personal level since I am ultimately stealing, but fucking hell do I hate BT and their torrent throttling. It gets all right at night but otherwise it is a nightmare.
I can't wait to get back to 60Mb Virgin Media in a couple of months ♥
P.S. On a non-personal level, it's pretty fucking shocking they throttle torrents so much when there are very legal and very well used purposes for torrenting. Seems like a bit of a scorched earth policy to please big companies and squeeze bandwidth away from people. -

Registered 8 years ago@Dougs I know, but they just throttle during peak times and it's not too bad. BT throttle and then on top of that excessively throttle torrents.
Deckard1 wrote:
Oh right, how's that? I used a VPN free trial and that worked a charm but I didn't want to pay for anything. And I also tried something in uTorrent called protocol encryption, but it didn't change anything.
Also it's pretty easy to get round the throttling with BT
