Internet connection ordered. Went with Infinity 3 (I really don't need any more speed than that). I could have had it activated immediately, but that's largely pointless so I went for the end of the month.

(So yes, it turned out that it did have FTTP)

Virgin have just upgraded me to 200mb for free. Just waiting for the modem to be delivered in the next hour or so. 😁

Internet seems fine on our phones but Christ, for the last couple of months is appalling on the PS4 Pro. Really struggles with all the video apps, particularly BBC iPlayer, and is really temperamental with games. Sometimes it cant even sync trophies and Monster Hunter World basically a waste of money as it won't let me play without a connection which it will only give me half the time.

You at 200mbps in the developed world now? In my flat in Frankfurt, 16mbps is still the maximum available. You can consider yourself lucky if you get 50.

I'd been keeping out of this thread with my measly fttc 20mbps broadband, but you've made me feel better about the small size of my pipe, so thanks for that.

@AceGrace we used to get free upgrades with Virgin. Started with a 50mb connection, eventually up to 300. Every upgrade was promptly followed with a letter telling us they have to increase their prices a few months later. It's never free.

The house were moving to they aren't prepared to put fibre in, even though people opposite have it, Mum and Dad have it round the corner. So best we're getting is a 70-80mb connection with TalkTalk.

I'll miss Virgin. Such a shame it's only available in so few places.

@Dougs really want to mate but the router is too far away
    :(

As in, close enough it should be lightening quick (downloads are to be fair, it's just online games and streaming it struggles with) but too far for a cable.

Might have to pay Hyperoptic to come round and move it, meh.

FTTC only recently came to my street. I’m delighted with a consistent wired speed of 55 down + 16 up now, which is approx ten times more down and 20 times up than I was getting before.

FFS I've had 1GBit/s up and down for years now.
Why is it so slow in jam land?

My word I have never even heard of these, that's how bad I have become with tech! Just done some research and picked up a couple off Amazon so will have tomorrow, Cheers!

aye...just got fibre as we were furthest from the exchange so took forever to do...now 'rocking' 38mb...which is a slight improvement on the 1.5mb with a following wind that we used to have...;)

most people's still seems to piss all over us but it means we can watch netflix etc without buffering and it doesn;t take a week to download a wow client...:D

@drhcnip it's a novelty to be able to stream Netflix on one device and be able to download / play / stream on another :)

Probably.i have ordered a 10 pack of Cat6 cables after discovering Cat5 won't cut it for over 100mb

After years of Peep Show I can't read the word Frankfurt as anything other than Fronkfort.

I'm on the lookout for some decent deals. I won't touch Virgin again, as when I moved I couldn't transfer my account, because they weren't available in my area, and hit me with crazy exit fees...

I'm going to need to use my PC wirelessly for a while, but it doesn't do wireless. Can anyone suggest what might be the best of the internal card options for that? I guess reliability of connection would be most important, followed by speed.

    This is for wireless AC.

Anyone got any experience of Vodafone's fibre broadband? I'm with Sky just now and it all works nicely, I'd save £21 per month with Vodafone, but I'm wary of signing up for an 18 month contract in case they're crap..

Well, it's pretty brilliant to be honest. Speeds are between 50-70's depending on where you are in the house, uploads are a consistent 17-18. Never dropped out and got about 6 deviced connected. Compared to the fibre line we had with Virgin, where we had nothing but dropouts and throttling (on an unlimited package) since getting it 10 years ago. Well chuffed.

25 quid p/m for that and free anytime and line calls (line rental included).

I'm tempted. Some reviews seem favourable, and you get a decent router too.

I picked up a tp-link wireless card for my server and it's been rock solid over the years. Only old style PCI, and only 300mbps 802.11n, but I dare say their pcie 802.11ac cards are similarly qualified.
