Correct me if I am wrong, but with the release of each new console, the releases appear to slow. Sure I appreciate with each new gen more time is required to create the games, but it feels like the Playstation 3 has only been out for 5 minutes and Eurogamer and the likes are talking about the possibilities of the next gen, Playstation 4 etc. I think what has there been, release wise ?

    My game collection amounts to:

    Uncharted 1/2/3 - 2 was damn good!
    LittleBigPlanet - Pretty good.
Heavy Rain - Played and completed 4 times. Excellent
Gran Turismo 5 - Still playing
Batman Arkham City - It’s ok. I’m growing tired of it.
Heavenly Sword - Not so great.
Yakuza 4 - I play this from time to time.
GTA IV- Gave up at the 65% mark - quite boring
    Kane&Lynch2 Dog Days - Completed
    MW2 - Completed - Impressive. Not addictive.
The House of the Dead Overkill - Arcade fun (looks like a PS2 game)

All there is to look forward to on the horizon is:
    The Last of Us
    The Last Guardian

That amounts to 15 games total. On the Playstation 2 I owned 50+ games.
Then I guess next gen will be available ?

Thanks for this. I don't think there's been nearly enough "what about the next gen" threads this week.

And yet it has been out for more than 7 years which is a very long time in the world of technology.

I gave it 2 years before I jumped onboard, once hardware prices approached reasonable, and there were good games available. The lack of decent titles happens every cycle. If next gen really isn’t all that far off, then technically the games must be being worked on already. We got one Gran Turismo game for Playstation 3, and my guess is Gran Turismo 6 may well appear on Playstation 4, not Playstation 3. I am happy with Blu-ray and Playstation 3, and really do not see the need for Playstation 4 for at least another 6 years. If Playstation 4 came out tomorrow, I would wait at least until my Playstation 3 packed up before considering the move.

I agree that the PS3 still has a lot to give. If you look at Uncharted series God of War 3, Killzone 2 and 3 technically, there's certainly a lot of room for improvement for most developers.

Time isn't an issue. Ther simply does not seem all that much available. We didn't even get a Silent Hill game, other than some half assed effort due out soon, rumoured to be delayed caused by constant changes. There was a ton of decent games for the Playstation 2.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories is sitting on my shelf. (Never played it though to be fair.)

    Playstation 3 ?

There are as many games of a similar standard to the PS2 era coming out now as there was back then. Many of the games you're looking for seem to be sequels that the developers have failed to manage to keep relevant.

And to expect/hope a hardware cycle for tech to last 13 years is insane.

It has not been out for seven years. It hasn't even been out for five years in the uk.

I think peoples feelings on the generations length this time around are different because there are not as many AAA exclusive PC games that are really pushing graphics beyond the consoles limitations

The incomplete ellipsis in the title infuriates my rage gland.

Erm, i owned 65 games for the PS2, and have 70+ on the PS3 (and counting), so what exactly is your point?

Just because the games haven't floated your boat doesn't mean there hasn't been an abundance of great titles this gen. I can name at least 20 killer games off the top of my head for the Wii alone, the supposed home of shovelware.

The hardware is better. Uncharted 2, MW2, Heavy Rain especially are great games. Maybe Half-Life 3 will show up. That would make me happy.

Been out five minutes? When did you buy yours exactly?
  • Deleted user 10 February 2012 08:09:50
The 360 launched in December 2005, The PS3 and wii launched in 2007 (EU).

    I didn't realise 5-7 years equalled 5 minutes.
