Registered 18 years ago64gb wifi ordered, me happy! Like the iPhone, it's really a no brainer when you've skipped a generation. iPad 5, or "newerest iPad" by then, will be my next.
Think dropping the numbers game is a good idea actually. In 3-4 months this'll simply be the iPad, while it will become iPad (3rd gen) when the 4 arrives. You don't see MacBook air 5's do you, only 5,1 for example in the about screen. -

Registered 16 years agoI found it odd when they brought in the numbering. The iPod have different models but the upgradings never added a number. Seemed a bit shortsighted but they seem to know what they're doing

Looks nice, but no compelling reason for me to upgrade really. I personally am more interested in the new apple tv- streaming 1080p rented movies sounds great. -

Registered 18 years agoLooks lovely. I really want one but I will wait for the next gen. As yegon said, skipping a gen is the way to go.
iPhoto looks almost perfect for me. The only thing I missed was the ability to make photo books. I've made three so far and they are gorgeous. Last time I made one I remember thinking how great it would be to do it on the iPad rather than the iMac. -

Edit: I'll be getting a new iPAd as soon as the ordering opens on the dutch Apple store.

more choice of films (but my cable TV box is just as bad - not sure about the xbox - and so it's almost certainly the media companies being dicks
2) natively play mkvs etc (which I guess isn't going to happen).
Re: the iPad3, I'm actually still pretty happy with my iPad1. I'm avoiding Apple stores for a while though, in case I change my mind when I see the iPad3.

Registered 16 years agoI think skipping "one" generation is a little bit over the top for iPads. Upwards of £500 every two years on essentially a marginal upgrade? -
Phew - nothing that makes me want to upgrade from my ipad2. Thank fuck for that! -

Registered 18 years agoNo need to buy anything but the 16GB WiFi in my opinion. And the step from iPad 2 to "the NEW iPad" is anything but marginal.
But yeah. It's not as if I need an iPad. It's bloody fantastic and the best bit of tech I bought since my Panasonic LX3 but it's hardly food on the table or roof over my head. -

Registered 18 years ago@kalel Not tempted by the new screen? -
Not even slightly to be honest. The screen on the ipad 2 is really nice imo.
I'm sure when I see the screen in the flesh I'll notice the difference, but i've never really thought that my ipad2's screen wasn't high enough res. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm giving my old iPAd2 to my nieces...sharing the happiness, as it were. I can afford a yearly upgrade purely from the money I saved by quitting the ciggies. So if next years one tempts me, I'll do the same thing...share this coming one with my family. Its a win-win. -

it depends what you wanted from it. personally i was all about having it thinner, lighter and more usable in the sunlight. and the haptic feedback rumour got me really excited.

the retina screen, i'm not that fussed about, sure i bet it looks amazing, but for what i generally do with my ipad (browsing, watching netflix), i dont think it will make huge amounts of difference watching a video at x768 or x1080 (actually i guess it will have to upscale it).
i'm off on holiday on friday and i'm thinking gadget wise, i will take my kindle and my vita rather than my ipad.
hey ho or maybe i'm just trying to talk myself out of buying one
-
For me the improvement is the very definition of "marginal". It basically doesn't do anything new at all. It just does the same things slightly better. That's not a big leap for me. -

Registered 17 years agoIt's a tablet. What on earth do you want it to do that it doesn't? I think it's ALWAYS going to do the same things slightly better. -
And there was me thinking Apple's whole brand positioning was about product innovation. -

Registered 18 years agoThat's the branding, but it's virtually always been about evolution. -
I'm not saying I expected it to make me toast in the morning, but I was expecting something a bit new and innovative along the lines of the haptic screen or whatever. Apple generally do pull something new out the bag, even if it's just Siri or whatever.
This really is just an ipad2-S. Not an ipad3 imo. -
So yes, I don't even think it's evolved. It's just slightly improved. -

Well yes - it has the fastest graphics chip in a tablet (I guess?), the fastest 4G technology, the highest resolution screen... Apparently iPhoto is amazing too (not seen the video yet). It IS innovative, but it's still a tablet. It still has to do tablet things.

I never bought an ipad 1. Wouldn't have upgraded to 2 if I had done though.
Anyway, buy whatever you want peeps. I'm just not seeing any reason to upgrade.
