actually, seeing as you can just go to the online store and preorder them for release day (at least you could when i checked at 10am), i dont think this will net you anything this time round. Global launch, preorders available, dont think you'll make any money after ebay sales fees.
We'll see. Maybe this time they'll be able to meet demands but my money is on no. (And so is my legue of chinese students I have hired to cue up outside every apple store in NYC)

I tend to agree, I think the old view point of having a shortage of stock to create demand and get people talking is not the same as it was.

Companies want to try and cash in while the iron is hot. As such I don't think people will struggle to pick up and ipad 3 on launch day imo.

Did anyone try that trick with the Vita?

My brother-in-law bought his missus an iPad2 for Christmas and they spent the rest of the holiday taking pictures and videoing people. Just use that expensive fucking DSLR or your Flip recorder FFS!

Anyway, I bought a refurb 2 for £289. Much more palatable price point.

Ebay reflects the market. If there is a demand for something and a shortage then people turn to places like ebay but they accept they have to pay a increased premium for it.

There was no shortage of Vita's in the shop and from what I could see ebay was matching and sometimes actually cheaper than the shops prices.

The thing with an iPad is the shortages don't help. If it's a few months before you can get one you know the next one is ten months off.
To me it's the kind of thing you either get right away or wait for the next iteration.
  • Deleted user 8 March 2012 14:45:01
yeah, I've been mulling over the idea of getting an ipad for a few months, really tempted to get this once since it will be nice and fresh!

I've heard that ALL 'tiers' of the new iPad will have 3G connectivity built it, but when I looked on the Apple site there's no mention of this at all. All they seem to be offering are wi-fi only and 4G versions.

Can anyone here clarify that the bog standard 16gb wi-fi does indeed come with 3G built in?

    According to the EG article:

Apple suggested there will be separate devices for different networks in the US, but all will be 3G ready.
    That's all I know.

Yeah, the US is crazy in that they have a couple of different network infrastructures - GSM and CDMA(?), so devices have to be customised for different operators.

If I actually had to guess, I'd say the wifi is wifi only and that 3G only comes with the 4G model.

The fact that it is 4G is so pointless for us in the UK unless you're on some of the trails that are running.

I understand there will be no country roll out of 4G across the UK till atleast Oct/Nov 2013.

Think I'll wait for the 4. A physical resins to make it look like a giant iPhone 4 would have for me. I really hate the beveled back on the iPad. And how the USB doesn't enter it flush. The black with glass backing I the iPhone would have looked sexy us having it lie flat would have been nice.

4G spectrum auctions aren't even starting over here until the end of 2012, so it'll definitely be a fair while before the 4G chip becomes useful - the iPad 4 will have been out for a few months, I'd have thought :-)

There is no need to guess ;)

I was reading a live feed from the show yesterday and Tim Cook definitely said all versions will come with 3G. Which is why the website itself is causing me the confusion.

I'll be delaying my preorder indefinitely till I find out, because without built in 3G at £399, selling my iPad 2 and upgrading is far less desirable.

That'd make the whole device feel thicker. And - more importantly - would make it a bitch to pick up.

The iPad and iPhone, while still sleek and sexy, are starting to look dated in comparison to their counterparts, imo. They need to get rid of that giant border around the screen - everyone's moving closer to borderless and it's so much nicer to look at. I feel like I'm looking at a 70s TV screen with these "i" devices.

If it didn't have the border then you'd be holding the actual screen and pressing things accidentally.

Let's have a look at these counterparts you speak of, then.

Even then it won't be any use, not with the iPad's current 4G configuration anyway. Uses the same frequency as our digital TV so current models will never work here.

Don't think it's a problem for ronuds, as he uses one of these:

Well, a few people I know have this:

And, just my opinion!, but I just think it makes this look slightly aged:

I'm not saying anything bad about anyone. Just my opinion! On 2nd look, the border sizes aren't all that different - they only "appear" to be.
